I'm not sure about that, most of their local stations (and 5 Live) seem to belong to the
'say something in a female voice'
'repeat it in a male voice'
'say it again with a telephone acoustic'
school of jingle making
I've said it before but it bears repeating - materials produced by/for the BBC Radio stations demonstrate far more competent creative flair than their TV counterparts

If they can afford the God Only Knows promo they can afford to use the signature three-notes on one more ident considering it's been used on practicly everything else.
Agree with the rest of your post though - the circles aren't quite dead yet and I do think just refreshing other elements of the presentation can extend their life further.
Incorporating the three notes into the music would've required them to pay out more money, which the BBC can't afford. It's a special ident, not a full-time one.

Well I think the BBC will revamp next year, but before I go into explanation, is this the right thread for it?

Its a good enough place as any, UNLESS you think its worth while creating its own thread.

OK, well I think the BBC will revamp next year because BBC Two has been using the 50th anniversary classic idents for a while longer than they could have done, therefore they are obviously gonna keep those running till Christmas and then the Christmas idents launch. Because it's been a long time since the current idents were last seen, then they are probably preparing for a change, since they never go back to a previous identification package after a long time. And with BBC Three heading off air next year to begin online operations, and some of it's programmes moving stations, BBC Two will probably reflect that change into their identification.
I doubt BBC One will follow the same suit, but will probably introduce a new bunch of circle idents. As for BBC Four (and we may need to launch a new thread for this) they may need a name change.......

That was my thinking too. Last I heard a large portion of BBC Three's budget would be destined for BBC One (which could be then allocated to presentation), and BBC Four will most likely rebrand to BBC Three.
Might as well overhaul the whole pig, rather than just do some channels and not others which need it more.

I think rebranding BBC4 into BBC3 would be a terrible idea and could cause confusion between viewers of both current channels. I personally feel that BBC4 should become BBC Arts, with the rest of BBC4's non Artistic programming going to BBC2.
As for a refresh of BBC's ident package, let's hope so. The current set feels very dated to me.

Heard from where ? If you wanted to totally kill off BBC 4's audience , that would be the way to do it !

It's going to be spent exclusively on Drama for BBC ONE. The BBC three brand will continue online.

I think it's other presentation elements, such as the endboard, ECP, etc, that let the presentation of the channel's down. I don't think there is anything wrong with the idents.
As for BBC Four, I think it might be renamed BBC Two Extra, and I suppose that will save them a bit of money too!
