i brought doctor who spearhead from space vhs (unedited version) in 2003. it had the old bbc logo (1989-1997) on the side of the cover but when i opened the case the new bbc logo was on the tape!
it's also the same with the death to the daleks video too.
why?
In the late 1990s, I bought
The Complete BlackAdder the Third
on VHS. The sleeve/cover had the [ B ][ B ][ C ] logo on it, but each cassette had a
B
B
C
label.
I think the "BBC video" ident when I played the tape was also the
B
B
C
version.
The BBC logo changed in autum 1997. I guess that in the period around the change, there would be inconsistencies, as the new logo was phased in and the old one phased out.
If the mass recording of one particular programme onto domestic video tapes happened in, say, July 1997 (so would have the
B
B
C
ident on them), but the sleeves/covers weren't printed until, say, late August 1997 (for a September 1997 release date), then you're bound to get inconsistencies.
I've got The Young Ones on VHS, from the short lived Cut Price Comedy range, which has the 1991-97 BBC logo on the sleeve, the current BBC logo on the Tape label and the first BBC Video ident on the tape itself, the stripey lined logo which lasted until about 1988.
