New BBC Local Radio jingles: Launched on Radio Leicester - Page 14

The way that these jingles have been introduced has slightly backfired due to Coronavirus, with a lot more sharing of programmes, so you get the new Radio Leeds jingles all day then a programme coming from Sheffield at 7 with the old imagine.

Not the biggest issue at the moment by any means, but with hindsight maybe arranging for all of the stations within a region to launch them at the same time would have been a good idea?

Surely there should be split jingles during shared programming?

Probably for established shared programming, but they may not have been able to set that up for shows that weren't intended to be shared? Or where the stations are using different jingle packages, playing in something totally different on different stations may not work so well?

The jingle package and the strapline come straight out of commercial radio from the noughties.

Is that because some BBC Local Radio stations are now being editied by people who were hanging around ILR stations as presenters in the noughties?

Holding out no longer - along with Guernsey and Jersey, BBC Hereford and Worcester now has the new jingles, having skipped the 2015 package altogether.

Just heard the TOTH jingle for Radio Derby. Whilst I don't mind the package as a whole, I'm not a fan of what they've done to my local station. The fact that they've decided to go with "The Sound of Derby" makes it sound like they've largely forgotten about the rest of Derbyshire and East Staffordshire. In comparison, Radio Sheffield's jingles sound more welcoming. Whilst I don't know what Radio Sheffield's TOTH will say once they introduce the new package, but the current package with the slogan "Broadcasting to South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire" sounds a lot more welcoming to me, even though the local transmitter broadcasts Radio Derby.

I’ve heard plenty of presenters over the years reference their ‘new sound’. Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 commented on their ‘new notes’ when the audio logo was changed a couple of years ago.

Apparently the training demo that is sent to the stations specifically states that presenters shouldn't talk to their audience about the new jingles, the reason being that listeners don't care about them.

Pretty much every presenter led BBC station would at least comment on something that sounds different
