Indeed. On television, it is split between South (the lion's share of the county), West, and South West.

Buckinghamshire would be another example that is awkwardly split across a few TV regions - London, South (Oxford sub-region), and East (Cambridge sub-region).

Does BBC Radio Devon editorially include news and information relating to e.g. Lyme Regis / Bridport / Abbotsbury etc?

Never listened long enough to find out. It's the stongest signal BBC LR receivable in Bridport and Lyme Regis on FM, (but still quite scratchy)

Wessex FM (still quite 'local' by today's commercial radio standards) must do quite well in Lyme Bay thanks to its Bridport relay?

Did Dorest opt-out programming previously use a bespoke slogan (e.g. "Loving life in Dorset" as opposed to the standard Radio Solent slogan of "Loving life in the South"), or is this an entirely new practice?

Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Bridport and other towns in West Dorset get mentioned on BBC R Devon's travel bulletins as and when there are issues to report on the roads there, though I suspect that's more for the benefit of Devon folk heading east out of the county.

Their slogan should be
"in Dorset? I thoroughly recommend it!"

WM being a fine example of an abbreviation that's got more syllables than the thing it's short for...

BBC Tees is now BBC Radio Tees - and seemingly unable to sum up their coverage area in a short snappy phrase, their slogan is 'The Sound of Where We Live'!


To make things worse, they currently call themselves BBC WM 95.6 which is just too clunky - hopefully they will take the opportunity to drop the '95.6'.

It seems a bit dated now having the frequency as part of a station’s name. Many which did include it have dropped it over the past few years due to the many other ways of finding a radio station nowadays. And even on FM, surely most people these days just hit ‘seek’ until they find the station they want. It seems hardly worth promoting the frequency so prominently for the few people who still twiddle a knob (if you pardon the expression).

WM is in a crowded radio market compared to many other places, it's also easier to do it there as it's only on the one FM frequency, so I can understand why they do it. BBC London do/did a similar thing if I remember correctly.

London lost the frequency as part of the branding when they rebranded back to BBC Radio London.

Yes it was surplus to requirements once the word radio was added. It was needed before to distuingsh it from the other 'BBC London' (and originally the website of the same name)
