Charlotte Moore getting promoted to Chief Content Officer does make me think that we'll likely get a new controller of BBC One.

If her new role oversees all commissioning on TV and radio (aside from news) and they’re looking to simplify the management structure, could it be the traditional controller role is removed entirely?

They’ve already done that. And then replaced them with alternative roles.

The controller roles for individual radio stations were abolished and executives like Ben Cooper and Lewis Carnie left the BBC. They then started hiring individual Heads of Station for Radio 1, Radio 2, 1Xtra, 6 Music and Asian Network, reporting to Lorna Clarke, Controller of Pop.

Does she buy the orange squash for the BBC?

Aren't the Heads of Station basically the channel controllers but on a lower paygrade?

I’m not sure HIGNFY is the issue, we all know that Ian will give it all barrels to anyone and I don’t think it is biased either way

It’s shows like The Mash Report, where it’s clear what Nish’s politics are, and the smug I’m right you’re wrong way he tells his jokes.

Don’t say that on twitter though, yesterday anyone who doesn’t like Nish Kumar was an extreme right wing brexiteer racist. There apparently couldn’t be any other reason why you’d not like him.

According to some on Twitter. You, and others in this thread are talking as if there is no conservative thought/points of view expressed on there.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I do not want a subscription BBC that serves the few. We could make a decent business out of it, and I suspect it could do quite well in certain postcodes, but it would make us just another media company serving a specific group."

That to me is a very reassuring move. It seems to me that the BBC has tried to emulate Sky and has failed considerably. We should have the choice of both mass market and PSB

How have they tried to emulate Sky? I don’t follow.

The BBC have tried (in my opinion) to be all things to all people. Sky have movies, sports, entertainment etc because they have both the cash and are less restricted in their PSB committments.

I still don’t follow. How have the BBC tried to emulate this?

I've gone down the wrong alley here. Shocked

Tim Davie’s first move is the reduction in size of the Executive Committee:

Seems slightly odd not to have Matthew Postgate on the board (as he used to be) - or anyone else representing Design+Engineering. iPlayer & Sounds (plus Tony Hall’s mooted “single BBC app”) seem vitally important to the BBC’s future.

What roles have been removed from the board then?

I think they are now under the Chief Operating Officer. I think D&E was only recently directly represented on the board, it was originally under the Deputy Director General, until that post disappeared (think that was in 2018 or 19) Matthew Postgate announced he was leaving a few weeks back. I wonder if he'll have a replacement or whether there'll just be one fewer level in the hierarchy.

The structure of the BBC does get more and more bizarre and complicated as time goes on. Some departments seem to drift from one directorate to another every year or so. I've lost track whether the department responsible for radio is 'Audio and Music' or 'Radio and Music' or 'Radio and Education' or whether those three all currently exist concurrently

What roles have been removed from the board then?

Director of Policy, Chief HR Officer (which seems to be under Managing Director, Bob Shennan now), Director of Radio & Education (now under Charlotte Moore), Director of Editorial Policy & Standards, Group General Counsel and as Inspector Sands kindly explains the reason for, above, Chief Technology and Product Officer.

Mark Thompson reduced the board‘s size when he started too - hopefully it does lead to a more agile BBC.
MarkT76, Inspector Sands and Brekkie gave kudos

Hopefully, but also a danger it ends up being reduced so much it is ineffective and not representative.
