Of course, as timeless as the BBC logo is, it is also rather bland and so to make it exciting does need a bit of imagination - for as long as I can remember it has only ever really been used as a solid colour with no animation - the glass blocks were about a close to something imaginative as they got.
The glass blocks, and their forerunner ('This is what we do'/BBC Productions' targa sequence) and the old TOTP titles are the only examples of animation I can think of.
Personally I don't want to see Reith '*******' the perfectly formed blocks from 1997. I think the best use of Reith could be below the BBC logo going forward, as opposed to the immediate left of it. The Midlands Today slug proves Reith doesn't work alongside the current logotype and any variation of the logo with Reith in it looks like a poor redraw... Let's not give the corporation ideas.
Personally I'd like to see Reith just gotten rid of, obviously not saying Gill for everything because it isn't fit for purpose anymore and has been overused. Reith is essentially a cost cutting measure (and perhaps the reason the blocks are being left is because it's not actually a Gill weight within the blocks, though based off it?)
