Do those letters get written like that in written Welsh, or is it an invention of the font designers?

It’s the invention of the font designers.

Yeah, no one writes Ll like the London Weekend logo. Otherwise I might have taken a bit more notice in school.

That Cymru Wales font is horrible, but it's not an everyday font, just something designed to have some quaint 'celtic' design and used for marketing purposes. It's almost ok as a headline font, but not used for actual content (as some websites have done),

The Reith font - yuck.

It joins Sky's font and ITV's font in the hall of shame.

That said, I am slightly warm to the serif version. Only ever so slightly.

There's nothing timeless about any of the custom fonts created for British broadcasters at the moment.

It may not be liked by a lot of people but I think Reith looks nicer than the current BBC ONE font and any other fonts used by any other BBC channel past or present. It will certainly give the entire network a bit of a refresh that is long overdue.

Reith is going to be sickening if it's going to be on everything though.

I wouldn't imagine it'll be any more sickening that Reem or Horseferry/Chadwick are seeing as they are everywhere on ITV and Channel 4, plus it helps bring a bit of uniformity to the network which the BBC really could do with at the moment.

Reith is a nice font but I think it should be a plainer font that is used for this purpose.

Lambie Nairn got it spot on in the 90s - the text was unique but plain and it looked good in its time.

Has anyone ever seen a font for the first time and thought: "Yep. Timeless."?

I think at least some if this is just down to familiarity or lack thereof.

Gill Sans, 1997.

For sure

After seeing Gill Sans on screen for some time I would have thought that, but certainly wouldn't have thought that straight away in 1997 when it first appeared.

In fact, I thought the font BBC 2 were using in the 1991 re-brand for their programme trails and menus was Gill Sans so I didn't fully realise the change until some time after!
