I like that arrangement of BBC Sport and BBC One logos (although a BBC should be added to the "one" if used on its own)
What looks slightly odd to me is the URL, which is positioned to the right when the rest is centralised. I wonder if it would work better if the 'sport/one' box was raised slightly and the URL added below centralised.
What would look better is if BBC 1 had a new channel symbol, like a 1 digit like in the 90's. It would sit well in the box, be great for an app logo if one was created and also tie in with the BBC 2 symbol and also the Roman numeral III for BBC 3. Same for BBC 4.
I also must say that though I wasn't sure about Reith before, seeing it on screen now and seeing the BBC Sport website pages, I do quite like it. A refreshing change that has been long overdue at the BBC.
I like that, on the BBC Sport website at least, all of the digits in Reith have the same width/spacing, so if this translates to screen, it means that things like clocks on sporting matches and tables with scores etc. won't have numbers that don't seem aligned and move around, depending on the digit. Especially apparent with the digit 1 on timers, for some reason that really bugs me! Sometimes they display the timer correctly on matches, but others they aren't. Where's the consistency? Aren't they using the same software/settings?
The problem with a numeral 1 is how do you make it stand out as the logo for BBC One like the 2 does for BBC Two. The 90s symbol is fairly iconic but looks immensely dated nowadays.
I'm sure it could be made to stand out and be iconic. The three I's for BBC 3 aren't especially super technical in design but they still work and help stand out so even something simple for BBC 1 might actually work.
I would personally pine more for a big ‘1’ - the question as posed by some members is whether it can be able to stand out from the likes of TWO, per se.
However if BBC Creative take that on board and pull off something that is impressive on screen - it means that the personality of the brand is restored, as well as giving it a new lease of life.
