Sherrie Hewson, John Challis, Roy Barraclough and Mathew Horne are among stars who have filmed a new version of classic sitcom Are You Being Served?.
Loose Women star Hewson has taken over as the pink-haired Mrs Slocombe, originally played by Mollie Sugden.
Coronation Street favourite Barraclough plays Mr Grainger and Only Fools and Horses star Challis is Captain Peacock.
Gavin and Stacey's Horne plays Mr Grace, while Jason Watkins is Mr Humphries, first played by John Inman.
Full cast, as pictured above:

Back left-right: Arthur Smith as Mr Harman, Jorgie Porter as Miss Croft, Justin Edwards as Mr Rumbold and Mathew Horne as Mr Grace.

Front left-right: Niky Wardley as Miss Brahms, Sherrie Hewson as Mrs Slocombe, John Challis as Captain Peacock, Jason Watkins as Mr Humphries, Kayode Ewumi as Mr Conway and Roy Barraclough as Mr Grainger.

Is this supposed to be set after where the original ended (e.g. 1985 onwards)? The hairstyles and attire of Jorgie Porter and Matthew Horne certainly seem to suggest so.

If so, then isn't the presence of Mr Grainger a continuity problem? The character wasn't in the later seasons back-in-the-day, and there were at least two successive replacement characters for him. Unless Mr Grainger's absence was explained in-story at the time as e.g. "on sick leave" or some such thing?

Presumably, the Mr Conway of the 2016 version is meant to be the next replacement in the Mr Lucas / Mr Spooner line?

Given that Mathew Horne (who is aged 37) is playing "Mr Grace", his character is presumably a son/grandson of one of the ancient-looking original Grace bothers? Both of whom I expect will be confirmed as now-deceased in this new version?

According to the press release when it was announced earlier in the year, it's meant to be set in 1988. Not that I think we should really worry too much about continuity and take those things so seriously.

And Young Mr Grace was already revealed to be dead in the Grace And Favour spin-off in the early 90s.

There are a couple of clips in a trailer airing on BBC One right now, not that they revealed much.

Indeed, and there was mention at the time of some discontinuity with Mr Granger's character making a comeback.

The Actor who played Mr Granger's died between S5 and S6. mind you if John Innman never went to Thames to do that crap Sitcom, i dare say S6 would have been made before Arthur Brough death.

Mr Lucas left in 1981 because he had a better offer, mind you If you watch him in S7 he just seems fed up everywhere. Mr Spooner was just crap, not the actor who played him but the writers just made him more bitter..

I wonder if one day the 2010s will be seen as the decade nostalgia went too far? Not that I have any problem with this, just a general thing I've noticed.
