I've always wanted to see Victor Lewis Smith's TV Offal repeated. It appealed to my sense of humour, and also to my anorakiness with features like 'TV Logo of The Week'.

I can understand a few edits might be needed - in particular thinking of the 'Honest Obituary' for the Two Fat Ladies, one of whom has actually died since.

You can find DVDs of the complete series (including pilot and usually bundled with Ads Infinitum) on ebay.

Presumably we're talking home-made copies here, although still might be worth a bid if they're ever going cheap. Thanks for the tip-off!

I was watching a cartoon called 'Tube Mice' made by TSW in 1988 on a German channel, I don't think that's ever been repeated here since!

Didn't Spike Milligan do the theme song to that?

I think it was him, it had Dennis Waterman's voice in it as well, shame I only caught the back end!

I think George Cole was also cast in this cartoon.

As for my repeat list....

Terrestrial

Monty Python - Great comedy never shown on the BBC or by UKTV
Seinfeld - it's shown on RTÉ in Ireland, why can't it be shown on terrestrial in this country?
Mr Bean - Simply funny, I'd guess the ones ITV repeated last year didn't work out.
The Young Ones - Again great comedy, but it's left up to Paramount to show this one, not the BBC or UKTV.
The Day Today - I know there's a DVD out, but it's now shown often enough as it should, I know BBC2 showed it the other week as a one off.

Multichannel....

Well there's not much, most stuff has been repeated and been released on DVD. I'd guess we'd be greatful for Challenge TV, UK Gold, ITV3, Men & Motors and Paramount for showing good old BBC and ITV shows.

Don't think so...

yes it was - I remember it being repeated not too long ago

Yes, I think it was - but I'd love to see it again. It was great.

Monty Pythons Flying Circus was repeated on BBC TV (I think it was BBC 1) late on Saturday nights in 1986.

And several other times. I first got into the show through the BBC2 repeats in 1995.

There's an entire page about Python broadcasts and repeats here: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/sotcaa/pythonpages/python_broadcasts.html

They are all divx avi's sourced from a well known uk torrent website, and someone had the great idea to profit from the uploads. My capture of an episode of Ads Infinitum ended up on there, not that I mind as I got hold of this DVD for nowt!

Monty Python is on Paramount Comedy all of the time, I taped a load from there in 95/96, and they are still using the same prints.

Not necessarily, a once-original joke used again and again does get tired and unfunny. Some funny material that had huge audiences rolling in the aisles 50 years ago leaves people cold now. And there are comedy styles that go out of date - not as many people find Laurel and Hardy or Charlie Chaplin as funny as our ancestors did.

Sophisication of the audience is a big factor to how things 'date' - as comedy innovates, the old ways of doing things often just isn't good enough

Well, with some people, perhaps.. I can only speak speak for myself. I find good comedy timeless. Yes, even old jokes - because if a joke is done well, it doesn't matter *how* many times I've heard it before. The fact that I sit through most Carry On films rolling around on the floor is testament to that.

I take the point that Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy are less popular now - but I think that's as much to do with the fact as there's more and more comedy around, less and less people are going to watch the older stuff. Not because it isn't good - but because they can't watch *everything* - and because it simply isn't easily avaliable on telly these days, as there's so much else to show. Of course, there are people who will view them as "dated" - but I'd argue that's an *unsophisticated* audience who can't view a programme or film in context, rather than a sophisticated one!

And all I can say is that most comedy "innovation" today leaves me cold. Not all of it - I'm not biased - but, well, I'd rather watch The Goodies or NTNON than stuff like The Office any day. It's not that innovation is inherently bad - I mean, look at TDT - but I'd rather comedies concentrated on being funny rather than trying to innovate.

Anyway, comedy = subjective, blah blah blah. I'll stop arguing this one now. I suppose I can only really argue from my point of view - and from what I laugh at. Regardless of whether much comedy dates or not, I *still* think The Goodies could find a cult younger audience on BBC TWO.

Strike It Lucky (I think Challenge have only ever shown Strike It Rich)

The 1987-93 series of Strike it Lucky were shown plenty of times when the channel was called Challenge TV.

That's strange - I have watched the channel for years (way before it changed it's name and before it went 24hr) and I don't ever remember seeing it listed.

I would also like to see some of the old 9:25am ITV gameshows - Chain Letters, Keynotes and Runway.

I've been watching Challenge TV since Summer 1997 and Strike It Lucky was shown in 1998 and I think it might have been shown in 1999 aswell, but Challenge did show them.

Actually, quite a lot of those programmes haven't even been shown properly once, let alone repeated.

The version I have is as professionally made as if it was an official release. I was very impressed!
