Never been repeated

on normal TV (January 2006)

There are a number of game shows that to my knowledge have never been repeated (obviously we can only really rely on Challenge for this now).
Examples if I may:

Take Your Pick (with Des O' Conner)
Strike It Lucky (I think Challenge have only ever shown Strike It Rich)
Old episodes of Countdown

Plus, i'm probably the only person who cares, but something i'm sure we will NEVER EVER see on television again is the 4-month run of Crossroads 2003.

People get *obsessed* with comedy "dating". NTNON has some bits that would be incomprehensible to a younger audience, but still has *huge* amounts of non-topical stuff, or topical stuff that's so well-known about it still makes sense today, or topical stuff that you don't need to know the entire story about anyway, and is still funny.

Indeed, hence why it's only ever been repeated or released as whole episodes, only as the 'Not' compilations.

Comedy does date though, people's tastes in humour and the things we find funny do change over time. There are jokes or funny concepts that were clever and original when they were first done but are now cliches or just not funny

A few other comedies which have never been repeated because of supposedly being topical, even though about 75% of the show isn't:

Arrow The Mary Whitehouse Experience
Arrow Fist of Fun
Arrow This Morning with Richard not Judy

No idea why the Glam Metal Detectives was never seen again. It wasn't that bad.

I was watching a cartoon called 'Tube Mice' made by TSW in 1988 on a German channel, I don't think that's ever been repeated here since!

Didn't Spike Milligan do the theme song to that?

There's loads of old obscure 80's cartoons that haven't been heard of since... I remember something called Tellybugs which looked a little like tellytubbies but I think had TVs for heads, and there was something with a gorilla called Gus and a proffessor, no idea what it was called but I think there was a Spectrum game of it...

Even the decent, well-known ones don't seem to be shown these days. For example, Boomerang show Dangermouse, but where's Count Duckula? And I remember another Cosgrove Hall one, I think it was Victor & Hugo (with a voice like Bluebottle from the Goons) that probably wasn't even repeated once...

I've always wanted to see Victor Lewis Smith's TV Offal repeated. It appealed to my sense of humour, and also to my anorakiness with features like 'TV Logo of The Week'.

I can understand a few edits might be needed - in particular thinking of the 'Honest Obituary' for the Two Fat Ladies, one of whom has actually died since.

Anything that David Jason was in but objected to being repeated lest it would impinge on his kudos.

Apparently.

That'd make sense... apart from the fact that there's obscure topical stuff in the compilations!

Not for me, it doesn't at least. I don't see how time can just render something unfunny. Even something that has become a cliche is usually funny - because the reason it became a cliche is because it was so well done originally.

You can find DVDs of the complete series (including pilot and usually bundled with Ads Infinitum) on ebay.

The 1987-93 series of Strike it Lucky were shown plenty of times when the channel was called Challenge TV.

Episodes ranging from 1983 to 1999 were shown when cricket finished early in 1999 and 2000. See http://www.thecountdownpage.com/cricket.htm .

Not necessarily, a once-original joke used again and again does get tired and unfunny. Some funny material that had huge audiences rolling in the aisles 50 years ago leaves people cold now. And there are comedy styles that go out of date - not as many people find Laurel and Hardy or Charlie Chaplin as funny as our ancestors did.

Sophisication of the audience is a big factor to how things 'date' - as comedy innovates, the old ways of doing things often just isn't good enough
