Yes, on the 1st of September....wonder if the anniversary will get a mention. Viewers on the Scottish side of the Border had a love-hate relationship with the station which was really only helped when the "Border Scotland" split-programming arrangement was made. Border made some great local programmes, just like every other ITV station....now ITV pay lip service to "local" and don't acknowledge they have the franchise to cover part of Scotland. It's a disaster.

That has always puzzled me.
Are you saying that the good people of Southern Scotland would have happily given up their regional contractor in return for a few minutes of pre-recorded news content?
Someone really should have told BTV... they'd have saved a fortune.
No way. No way in the world were viewers in the NE placated by "Network North" as they watched YTV dismantle the NE franchise, and I refuse to believe that Scottish Borders viewers could have been pleased with the service they were getting in 2001, much less now.
During live sporting events that over-ran, such as extra time in a soccer match, or I recall a 1991 Rugby World Cup Match that over-ran by 10 minutes due to a - the refereee (brian Anderson of Scotland) getting injured, and B - His replacement Jim Fleming having to deal with a major disciplinary issue, what would happen if there was a regional programme scheduled after it? Would the regional programme be cancelled, or would a networked programme go.
In such circumstances as well, must've been chaos if a show like Blockbusters was delayed in some regions, due to the slot taking up an over-running sports event, where some regions were showing it, and others weren't, I.e. showing another show of a different length.

I can remember some golf coverage on ITV in the late 1970s. The coverage over ran. Every half an hour or so the commentator would say, 'and at this point viewers in some regions have to leave us'.

Well Stv must have had some live reports during the evening, I sure both STV and border tv would have copies each other films, as there did share all work.
Border was not well like north of the Carlisle, it would not have taken much to solve this problem.
At least Grampian will get a name check during the news on its birthday week.

It only becomes chaotic if the region that's playing it out are delayed. Everyone else can record it down the line from the region that is playing it out to the network, and then play it out locally whenever they are able to slot it into the schedule.

The former staff are throwing a party in Carlisle in September
A friend of mine from the Central Belt moved down to Hawick for a spell as a teenager.
He blamed the fact that many of his fellow pupils supported Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle (rather than Scots teams) on the fact that they watched Border.
I thought that might be overstated because Border did show Scotsport.
But it was always a hotchpotch region. The only thing that united its viewers was their ITV service.
Three separate legal jurisdictions (England, Scotland, Isle of Man).
A huge geographical reach - Stranraer to Berwick.
But for much of its existence, Lookaround had the highest reach of any ITV news programme.
Perhaps the fact that your local town was far more likely to be mentioned on a news programme for around 600,000 people than one for six million still made it more relevant to the viewers, even though much of the programme was as irrelevant to them geographically.

IBA loved the region: but it should have been clear from the start there would be problems, as all 3 counties would have envy for other parts, Would anyone on the island of Man care about Scottish football?
To be fair I think we may have been a bit harsh with borders there did try and there were also broadcast High road and Garnock way in tea time slot. I do remember seeing Scotsport being dumped at 2.30am in the mornings sometimes, and the sad fact was there could have done a better job with the sport. There could have made the effort to make there own sport show which had input from Granada, TT and STV.
I have to ask what other programmes did there produce?
