The only times I remember seeing Sesame Street it was the first thing on LWT in the morning, my memory as a small child was seeing it with what was probably something like an IBA slide before it. I assume it stopped being shown once TVam started.

For fairly obvious reasons the UK never really embraced Sesame Street, is it on one of the kids channels these days?

There's an ATV start up on one of the 'Kif' VHS tapes (that used to do the rounds before the internet and RealPlayer) which features Sesame Street on the menu for the morning. IIRC it was a Saturday morning line up.

One question I have about the 1980s ITV airings of Glenroe is - was it broadcast with the ident of the regional station showing it beforehand, or was it "An Ulster Television Presentation"? I'm sure I remember a reference on a website, perhaps on an older version of TV Ark, to an off-air link with the "telly on a stick" appearing before what was described as a soap opera or a drama series in a daytime slot, and I can't think of what else it could be (possibly "The Irish RM", but any ITV airings of this I'm aware of - mainly in the UTV region - were in evening slots).

The only UTV programme shown elsewhere on the network with that telly ident that I'm aware of is Password, the game show. TTT showed Glenroe for a while, but I don't recall it having any UTV branding.

Sing Out!? there is actually a video of this on this thread Razz that come as a surprise to me aswell.

Yes, I seem to recall the IBA had all sorts of concerns about the programme, so there were many compliance issues with it.

In the 70s, we received Southern, Thames/LWT, and ATV. I can only ever recall seeing it at 08:30 Saturday mornings on LWT, and as you say, synonymous with the IBA/LWT start up slide, with 'A Well Swung Fanfare' .

I get the feeling it was network in 1978 when some other compaines took Sat Banana from southern

* HTV: first in 1970
* LWT in 1971
* Granada - 1974
* Westward in 1977

* ATV/Central: 1978
* Borders
* Southern: 1978
* Grampian: July 1978

* STV 16 March 1979* -- Sundays always well.

* Anglia - Summer 1981 - did anyone see it before this ?
* YTV - Summer 1982 - did anyone see it before this ?

Can any one confirm that TT started broadcasting SS during the Summer of 80 or 81?

This is a 1985 Anglia start up which has a menu showing Sesame Street as their first programme.

I have a sound file somewhere of a Yorkshire start up with Redvers introducing "that unusual big bird".

I've just located that sound file on MHP Chat - and someone has dated it to Friday 2nd April 1982. If that is correct, it indicates that Sesame Street was being shown by YTV during the Easter holidays in 1982, apparently at 09:40 after the ten-minute programme Sally and Jake.

You just posted as I was editing my above post! But yes, it proves we're referring to the same clip!

THANKS as this is the video I have been looking for proof that Umbongo ad started in 85.

List has been revised: Tyne tees it seems DID Have SS in 1979 January – July, during Saturday shake down. Between that period and 82 it disappear from Saturday mornings. ( not sure if it went out during the weekday holidays mornings ) It never went out on Sundays, TT always followed LWT, STV and GTV, never seemed to bother with Morning worship. ( I dare say because it was English)

Some of the details have come from here: http://www.tiswasonline.com/look_in.php?details=on with the missing dates here: http://www.tiswasonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=927&start=90 which I did go looking for so I do have some idea, According to my records TT had it in early 1979..... ( before you say not all detail about when it started come from its IE before 74 or stv, also there chance some other area put it before that during holidays)

* HTV: first in 1970
* LWT - 1971
* UTV - 1973
* Granada - 1973
* Westward in 1974
* ATV/Central: 1978
* Borders 1978
* Southern: 1978
* Grampian: July 1978
* Tyne Tess January 1979 ( No idea about 1980 or 1981)
* STV 16 March 1979* -- Sundays always well, instead of Morning worship: This just makes me laugh!

* Anglia - Summer 1981 - did anyone see it before this ?
* YTV - Easter / 29 March 1982 - did anyone see it before this ?

I have to ask when did the rest of the ITV compaines start showing Sesame street?

we know:

* HTV: first in 1970
* LWT in 1971

* Grampian: 8 July 1978
* STV it appeared in 16 March 1979*

Grampian showed it long before 1978....I stayed in Edinburgh in the early 1970s and Sesame Street was screened by Grampian, but not STV, then. Can't put an exact year on it....but it was 74 or earlier.

The Muppet Show coming along in 76 (or was it 77?), might well have caused a burst of interest in S.St from the ITV companies that until then hadn't shown it ?
