I have to ask, Apart from Meridian, Central and borders, I take it the rest of the English compaines drop Take the high road from Jan 1993?

All the regional companies dropped Take The High Road at the beginning of 1993, but in September, I think, someone wrote into the Radio Times to thank Carlton for bringing it back, and RT said it was now being shown again "in all but one ITV region". I think the one that wasn't showing it was Yorkshire.

I heard its was YTV and Tyne tess that both kept it off, but it came back in 1996. ( starting from where the left off)

I also heard that Central kept it as-well straight till 2001? of course the 3 Scottish compaines kept with it Wink

Tyne Tees were owned by YTV at the time, which is why Take The High Road was off-air in the North East as well as in the YTV region.

No surprise Central carried on with it, they used to be nuts about soaps, they were the only region, I think, to show Echo Point, another Australian series, and when the teatime news moved from 5.40 to 6.30 in 1999, most regions showed regional programmes at 5.30, but Central showed Shortland Street - the same time as Neighbours! They did plenty of other regional shows, natch.

In 1997, Granada moved Granada Tonight from 6.30 to six, and Home and Away from six to 5.10, to make way for more regional shows at 6.30, but clearly they didn't have enough, as they ended up showing Take The High Road at 6.30 for about six months. Dunno when they stopped showing it.

I think most place moved H&W back to 5.10pm by 1998, expect HTV. Central was soap mad, were they not the fastest broadcasting most of the oz soaps? also Im sure central never dropped it high road in the first place,

I believe it was around 1998 just after there brought out Yorkshire/TT, all 3 dropped it at the same time, I think it was only about 18months on yorkshire. YTV dislike it as it was compertation to the farm, strangely STV moved emmerdale out of peak time around the same time ytv refused to take it back, any link? Wink

They didn't have enough regional shows at all that within 12 months they made Granada Tonight an hour in length which stayed the same until Summer 2001.

Wasn't it the case that Granada (and Border) moved H&A to 5.10 just before the end of 1997, ahead of the schedule moving much closer to that of YTV/TTTV?

For years of course Border had been showing H&A at 6.30pm (unique on ITV at the time) so they could show Lookaround at six.

Having a mother and sister who were mad keen on H&A in the mid-nineties, I can confirm Granada started showing it at 5.10 in 1989, with Granada Reports at six, then in January 1990 moved H&A to six with the rebranded Granada Tonight at 6.30 (which they could do as Emmerdale moved from 6.30 to seven). In May 1992, H&A moved back to 5.10 so they could do regional shows at six but nobody liked that so in January 1993 it was back at six. Then in January 1997 H&A moved to 5.10 with Granada Tonight at six, and Granada Tonight was extended to an hour at the end of that year.

As far as I know, the only region still showing H&A at six when it was networked at five o'clock in 1999 was Central. Granada had already moved it, and I think Carlton and Scottish, the only other two regions who showed it at six, had already moved it to 5.10 as well.

Grampian and HTV also had H&W at 6pm, it was around Autumn 98 when STV and GTV moved it back to 5.10pm

( im sure HTV kept it till the march changes 99 )

But if Borders had H&W at 6.30pm, I take it there place High road into the nice 7pm slot?

Border latterly showed Take The High Road on Tuesdays at 7.30pm. If memory is correct, they were one of the few companies to show it right to the end of the series. From 1988 through to the mid 90s it was shown at 6.30pm on Mondays and Fridays.

I'm not sure how reliable the information is, but several written reports of the Lockerbie crash state that TTHR had 'just finished' and This is Your Life had 'just started' when the tragedy happened. That would indicate Border showed TTHR at 6.30pm on Wednesday 21st December 1988.

Steven, if H&A was shown 5 nights a week at 6.30pm from 1989, then Border wouldn't have been able to show TTHR in that slot on Mondays and Fridays - could it not have been shown at 7pm?
