I know that TV-am provided the advertising on 'The Channel 4 Daily' from May 1989 until Dec 1992, but didn't the ads come into C4, or perhaps ITN as an outside source, rather than C4 being routed via TV-am ?

AIUI TVam did the adverts for Channel 4 in the same way as the ITV companies did - it went through them and they inserted the adverts (I assume either nationally or in their macro advert regions)

I've never managed to find out what happened for S4C. Was S4C's output routed via HTV Cardiff (a lá the rest of the UK for C4) or the ads provided as an outside source into S4C ?

I assume the same way as Channel 4

It's also why Channel 4 had a 9.25am blip until the end of 1992, and also why when ITV Schools was on 4, they'd have an interval between 9.25 and 9.28am, which disappeared from January 1993.

And if you want to be very technical during this era TV-am would have also had to have handled S4C's adverts between 6 and 9.25am during this period.

Here is the clip: http://www.ultimate-lwt.co.uk/video071.html it does look like it goes back to Thames?

They cut to their studio but not the same as the 5:15 changeover.

No, I know what you mean. There were occasions where Thames handed over to LWT, but the Thames announcer would say at 17:14:55, "Now here's Andrew Gardener with details of tonight's Thames News". BT performed the Crystal P feed line switch, but LWT Pres had the Thames News studio already faded up as an outside source. At the end of the live trailer, Gardener would then hand over to LWT's announcer. The actual switch of Tx feeds still occurred at 17:15:00, but that trailer was routed through LWT pres, and not Thames.

Anyone care to suggest how the video insert was applied in the middle of this 1975 LWT trailer ?

I don't remember them doing that, I wonder why they didn't do the trail up to 17:15:00:00?

Don't know, it might have been because the Friday edition of Thames News was produced for LWT, (in fact ISTR it was called, 'Thames Weekend News' ) so it was up to LWT to promote it rather than Thames ? [1]

It gave a more gradual transition from Thames into LWT except of course for the big 'splat' cutting between Philip Elsmore and Andrew Gardener, who were physically in the same building in Euston. Very Happy

[1] Another thought of course was that Thames's final ad break on Fridays usually ran until 17:14:50, so they wouldn't want to lose 30 seconds of revenue, promoting effectively one of LWT's programmes ?

First edition of Thames weekend news ( as a Stand alone programme) would have 5 months down the line when it first started? it only needed to get promoted June - end of August when the Six o'clock show was not on the air. two month of each year would be the only times it would get promoted. Im surprised there never moved to 5.30pm during the summer.

Heres an handover in 1984

That is a very good point. It does beg the question of how they divided up that hour in terms of ad minuteage, presumably Thames was just allowed to do a quarter of the hourly allowance?

Unusual to see LWT showing Young Doctors on the Friday - it was also shown by Thames earlier in the week, so I assume they jointly bought the programme?

It seems it only happened for the 1st series, when it first started broadcasting the show, ( summer 83) Tuesday and Fridays at 5.15pm.( blockbusters was at 3.30pm, for its first run) changed to Mondays and Tuesdays at 15:30, by start of September, 84 to allow blockbusters into the slot.
