Very sad to learn of the passing of another of the great voices of BBC TV continuity.

For those of you that are not familiar with his work, here's a clip of David closing down BBC1, from summer 1993 (courtesy of the BBCTVContinuity YouTube channel):

Sorry to hear this news. I worked with him for a while.

It's voices like his that are sorely missed and much needed back on television nowadays. R.I.P.

It was 'a late night voice'.
I was his radio producer for a short while.
Unfortunately I hadn't heard him for a long time.

Announcers that could talk properly with a bit of personality thrown in for good measure - a real shame we don't have that anymore.

Sad - grew up with his tones in the 90s, one of the best the BBC ever had.

Sad indeed. I believe his last stint behind the microphone was on Saga Radio/PrimeTime Radio was it not?

He had a wonderful voice. Met him only quite recently and he was a thoroughly decent, friendly chap. A trained actor who'd done classical work on stage before becoming an announcer.

There is some video of him in action in OU Con (go to 5'45" in) here:

Aha. So he was *that* voice! Essentially, the voice I most associate with BBC Television.

RIP.

Yes I totally agree, David's voice was simply great for TV presentation, lovely to hear and see those youtube clips of him, sadly missed on today's TV for sure.

One thing I wanted to say was that I had just been recently informed of another death of a gentleman by the very same name, and he too had connections with the BBC, in fact he compiled music tapes for their trade tests in the early days, what a sad coincidence isn't it. Sad

I think you might find out that it is not a coincidence...
