Netflix refreshes its ident

Sorry thought the second tweet with all the images was part of the opening.

I thought they might've updated the jingle too considering where it came from.

I've never cared for that jingle at all, but I suppose it's gradually becoming synonymous with Netflix programming in the same way HBO's "shhhh... Aaahhh" isn't a patch on previous HBO stings but it's become something of a seal of quality over the years.

As somebody who has made production endcaps for internal productions I can't tell you how difficult it is to find something so short and useful and perfect the first time you hear it. Even something as simple as a two note drum beat for Netflix takes time to figure out what's right.

It is not a task I relish ever doing again.

For me, the jingles are synonomous with certain programmes - Netflix with OITNB which I think is the first programme it appeared on. Also for example I can't hear the HBO ident without hearing the tune to 'Curb your Enthusiasm' immediately afterwards. And BBC2's Neon ident is forever linked in my mind with Twin Peaks.

I watch Netflix daily and I genuinely couldn't tell you anything about the jingle.

Is that where it came from or is that a promo that encorporates the jingle as it was one of the early Netflix original programmes?

Have to admit I hadn't made the connection between Frank's signature double knock before.

That scene is exactly how Season 2 of House of Cards ended. That episode started with the old Red Background Netflix ident. The first episode of Season 3 starts with the double tap noise, white background ident. The timing of the tap does sound spot on to the ident they switched to

Six Feet Under is my connection when I hear the HBO jingle

Something about the jingle in the new bumper sounds almost out-of-sync with the visuals. It might just be because the point in time where the older symbol had essentially finished animating is where the new bumper is "bursting" into "an array of light"
