The data for BBC 5 Live has been updated to reflect that Question Time Extra Time has been cancelled, so it's odd that they haven't done the same for BBC One and Question Time.
BBC1's Twitter announced that normal programmes have been suspended for the time being, and Question Time's Twitter has said it is 'currently unlikely' the programme will air.
The use of the kites ident on BBC1, with it's upbeat soundtrack, was not at all appropriate, to lead into such a solemn news event. Once again, the current lack of any BBC1 ident with sufficient gravitas for serious news events, is very evident.
I have to disagree - Kites is the ident I most associate with introducing BBC One news bulletins (followed by Capes). I don't find the soundtrack 'upbeat' or jolly, but quite neutral. However, that is my personal opinion.

When the Queen Mother died, they used a static caption. What they should do is use either a plain 'News Report' slide, or a clock again.
The slowly rotating BBC News globe with a static BBC One logo over the top would be ideal for this situation
Have some sympathy with the BBC (and ITV) not carrying Obama live, enabling them to continue with the retrospect. They'd then have the timing of the US President's remarks at hand to fit in, especially as both are in Bulletin mode rather than rolling news (as Sky is always).

Andrew, that would indeed be a far more preferable option.

I think the lack of a 'serious' ident is an oversight on the designer's part. Does anyone know how they broke into programming when Thatcher died? BBC2 had a 'Breaking news on BBC1' strapline.
Maybe important locally, but nothing tops this story tonight, absolutely nothing.
What do you mean? Everyone lives somewhere locally and if their home is to be flooded overnight then that is a bigger and more important story than one that they already know and isn't going to change.
ITV News may have made a mistake for not breaking into coverage of Im a Celebrity but Mark Austin has been masterful at the helm tonight and hope to see him and Jeremy Thompson two former South African correspondents live from South Africa tomorrow.

The original soundtrack to the helicopter ident had the necessary gravitas, but it has been shelved for the new (and inferior) soundtrack version, and in any case, even if they did wish to use the original soundtrack version, the helicopter ident has, quite understandably, been decommissioned for the time being, due to the recent Glasgow events.
Yes, a static caption, or something similar to the weekday 8PM news bulletins (plain red background and BBC logo/swirl, but with a mute soundtrack) would have been acceptable.
