Social media is buzzing about the dropping of MBB. Some feel the announcement should have been made on BBC One at 2200.

It was a repeat though, not a new episode. I don't really see the harm (it'll be on at least 700 more times in the coming year)

Agreed, it's not like the Christmas Specials DVD isn't out from all good retailers.

Yes, bad form from ITV not just from a repuation point of view but also purely from ratings - they've 9m watching I'm a Celeb and they've sent them over to BBC1. They really should have wrapped up I'm a Celeb a little bit early - just cutting the exit walkways and voting info and ending on a more sombre note would have been the right thing to do.

RTE doing very well reacting to the news. The news broke while they were on air, they went to the Zuma press conference, came back to studio guests who were there to talk about a different matter and then went to a superb report by Richard Crowley in South Africa filmed earlier in the year I believe.

There wasn't a newsflash as such, just a fade through black out of Mrs Brown's Boys into the Kites ident and the CA as I mentioned above, then crashing into the News Channel which was simulcasting World.

Looks like BBC One have left Mrs Brown's Boys for the same

EDIT: Just watched back on iPlayer, mix through black into the Kites ident "Now on BBC One we interrupt Mrs Brown's Boys to join President Zuma for a statement"

We're often quick to point out the mistakes so I think that was slickly done and totally the right decision over a Mrs Brown repeat. I wonder how many people said 'who's President Zuma?' though.

Oh and "...is dead" - what happened to a bit of respect, eh ITN?

The BBC did what they should and interrupted the programme on air. They would have had more criticism if they hadn't. Bit of a messy handover to the BBC News at Ten.

Meanwhile on ITV it's a normal opening, although no other stories mentioned in the headlines.

I wonder if they had much knowledge this announcement was going to be made. I imagine the news will be dominated by this for some time.

Thoughts with his family of course.

Seeing the news was announced after 21:45, I think it would be difficult for the news team to organise & get permission from ITV to go on air and then tell the guys in Aus. The implications of not letting the viewers know the phone numbers as well could be against them. its Live programme not expecting breaking news.

Very unlikely they'll be reading this.

Channel 4's newsflash type thing was nice (if it can be nice due to the circumstances) just a simple image of Mandela and the years. The CA announced the news and what channel 4's programming regarding the issue would be.

Blimey, the BBC even managed to update the EPG with their 10 minute 'News Special' . . .

I wonder if they had much knowledge this announcement was going to be made.

Possibly not, Mark Austin retweeted a message earlier from someone basically implying it was the media stirring up something and that there was nothing to cause alarm.
