So I shouldn't watch the local news for some news that is local to me? No wonder people are disagreeing with you.
For the flooding, BBC local radio should be your first port of call, not BBC1. Yes, I would expect them to cover it, but I would point out that you shouldn't be relying on a national TV channel to get your local news.

Was a bit of a shambles. Was very abrupt.
ITV came out of the news now, after failing to link up with someone in Johannesburg.

When the Queen Mother died, they used a static caption. What they should do is use either a plain 'News Report' slide, or a clock again.
If a clock existed it wouldn't get used in an event like a newsflash, not unless the cut to the news was definitely going to be at an exact time. Just putting it on for the sake of it to show it's 9:42:34 is pointless

Thanks for that. I do think surely they could break away for an hour after midnight and air Question Time, just prefixing it with an announcement it was recorded earlier - or air it on BBC2 or even BBC Parliament. It'll be interesting to see if it makes it to the iPlayer.

BBC One HD's filler caption transitioned out to black before the special BBC News titles.
