BBC is playing hard-ball now, threatening to take the decision out of Freemantle's hands.

Unless this has been posted up in the last few minutes, I think this is the strongest confirmation yet Neighbours could be on the move in the near future...

The BBC's withdrawal of the show would be a problem for Fremantle.

The BBC have the rights until the end of next year, which broadcaster is going to want the show if it's taken off screen until the end of 2008, surely the audience would move on.

Certainly likely to affect the appeal of the show and the asking price of the other broadcasters if that were to happen.

Why does it have to be taken off until the end of 2008? I thought that only happened with H&A because ITV played the sore loser. Unless it's not as simple as that, I would hope the BBC takes a more grown-up attitude if, as looks increasingly likely, they lose Neighbours.

Yes I think it would be difficult for the BBC to justify removing it from screens early given that they've allocated licence fee money to the deal until the end of 2008.

I don't think it would be taken off air, but moved to a grave yard slot, like 11.30pm.

If the BBC dropped it for the year and a half, it would ruin the show as it has been mentioned Neighbours is only kept going by international channels. But it does make the BBC the top choice otherwise, ITV would have anothe failling show in its shedule.

I hope the BBC have the guts to do this if they lose the rights, or even pull it off the air altogether. It will give them time to adjust their daytime line-up in preparation for when ITV/Five take over the rights.

Forget Freemantle, the BBC doing their loyal viewers a disservice by pulling the show offair would be appalling. And as mentioned, licence fee money already allocated from the last contract would be completed wasted by not showing the episodes. Although I'm sure everyone can understand the clearly OTT cash demands, that shouldn't be at the cost of the dedicated viewers.

How about in the face of the lower licence fee settlement excuse, the BBC stop paying interest to this Manchester notion (for political means only) and start rewarding us taxpayers with what we want onscreen?

No live football and now an hour to fill on BBC One daily. Bad move BBC.

I've hardly missed Neighbours for the last 5 years, it is my favourite soap and I'm regualry glued to the 5.35pm slot or with my lunch at 1.40pm. It'll be a shame if the BBC lose it and drops it for the duration before it moves to another channel. IF it moves to ITV1 I'm expecting it to be on at 5 or 5.30pm and possibly 1.30 or 2 in the afternoon or ITV1 may only decide to show one showing. I do sympathise with Home and Away fans who couldn't view the programme for a matter of months during it's move from ITV1 to Channel 5.

I cant say id blame the BBC if they did pull Neighbours actually - its the sucess of Neighbours on BBC1 that has kept the show from being axed alltogether as its only hugely popular in the uk - in Oz its Home and Away thats more popular.

If the show moved to ITV I bet it would lose viewers as plenty of people its target audience watch as a force of habit after CBBC on BBC1.

Good news all round IMO - well, except for people who still like Neigbours because it's only it's international appeal which is keeping it alive in Australia.

It'll force the BBC to give their afternoon schedules the shake up it requires (though I suspect as a result CBBC will move to BBC2), while if ITV take Neighbours we should be spared yet another attempt from them at an home grown soap opera.

Doubt it - havent they already commissioned a daytime version of The Royal?

Besides ITV1 havent shown any soaps in daytime for almost 4 years.
