No.

I'm basically saying I can't imagine Neighbours with ad-breaks.

Lets leave it there.

But of course, Neighbours is produced with ad-breaks in mind. It's edited in the UK to remove them. I'd imagine for the first time, the UK will be able to see the show in its original form, as shown in Aus.

Which is another point, although the BBC spends £20,000 per episode on Neighbours, how much does it pay to edit each one? Do they still pay West One Television to do it?

Not quite, as Neighbours in Aus has 2 Ad breaks, so one of them would still have to be edited out

I think all episodes from 1978 onwards are still around. There are also episodes as early as 1966 on the DVD's.

They can now repeat it from around December 1977 if they had the urge. There is a programme featuring Crossroads coming up on ITV3 possibly soon. And Unique TV have been doing something about the show as well. So it would be good for it to be repeated. Shame they can't do it from the first 1969 colour episode - I'm sure it would become a cult like Prisioner Cell Block H, if they could.

Also of course, the early Crossroads was a lot like Neighbours - but it was the same guy who put together both shows! And sadly, both shows have gone the same way after 20 years - ended up nothing like what they once were!

You used to get the odd jump in the Young Doctors where the ad-breaks had been edited - they'd have to edit both out and stick a new one in the middle. But it never harmed any of the other shows they've shown where this has happened. Home and Away was mainly edited due to the content of the programme being a bit dodgy for afternoon screenings.

This still happens with H&A on Five. The ads are chopped out, but a new break is put, somewhere in the middle of "Part 2".

Pretty sure Aussie shows have three breaks in a 30-minute programme (i.e. divided into 4 parts) - so the UK screening would be Part 1 & 2 - ads - Part 3 & 4.

Thing is who actually puts in the break sequences? Im pretty sure Grundy would surely ship out Neighbours with out any and leave it up to the broadcaster to slot them in where it wanted them?!? Hence the BBC dont have to edit them out?

I hope Neighbours moves to ITV. If so, when would the first episode air on ITV? Also, if ITV buy the rights to the show, could they get an option to broadcast older episodes from the late 80’s or 90’s maybe to show on ITV3?
I think ITV will show Neighbours at the following times:

Weekdays:
1:00pm – ITV1
5:00pm- UTV
5:30pm– ITV1
Next Episode 6:00pm – ITV2

Saturday or Sunday:
9:25am – Omnibus

I was thinking how would UTV broadcast Neighbours if it did come to ITV?

They have been known to drop a lot of the ITV1 early evening schedule in favour of their own programmes. Look at Soapstar Superchef, The Sharon Osbourne Show, Price Is Right, even Paul O'Grady when he was at ITV1, all weren't shown because of "UTV Live at 5:30-6:30pm".

Ulster viewers like Neighbours, but will they get a chance to see it if it does come to ITV?

If they put it on at 5:00pm then yes but I don't see UTV being too bothered to broadcast it. What does people think??

I think UTV will broadcast it at 5pm! At the mo, UTV have to keep finding fillers for the 5pm slot while ITV have an hour long programme which UTV cannot show, so by having Neighbours always on at 5pm on UTV, they wont have to go to the trouble of finding filler programmes every few weeks or months like 'price is right', 'planets funniest animals' etc as they will always have Neighbours ready for that slot!! So its a win win situation for UTV with a regular programme for 5pm and 5:30pm!

Sorry, I've lost track of this thread. Has anyone mentioned that the BBC Neighbours website has stopped being updated?
