No.

I'm basically saying I can't imagine Neighbours with ad-breaks.

Lets leave it there.

But Neighbours has ad breaks in Oz.

As long as they put them in a suitable place then I see no problem.

With respect to Mr Grade, I'm sure he's got a lot in mind to sort out ITV but poaching Neighbours from the BBC after 21 years is not the best move.

Yeh of course, why would they want such a popular daytime show in their line-up, a show that pulls in a phenomenal 40% audience share at lunchtime and over 2.5m viewers, when their own daytime schedule is so succesful. Rolling Eyes

Look, don't see me as blind. I know exactly the real reasons behind it but it is a very sloppy attempt at trying to get ITV back on track.

They need to reinvent themselves and of course Michael Grade is the person to do that. Quality shows and fresh talent etc. Ditch the reality TV rubbish, ditch the talent shows. More drama, more comedy, more current affairs, more regional programming. Money spent better elsewhere - Done.

Yes and at least he seems to be interested in spending money on TV programmes unlike the previous Chairman

At the end of the day, all programmes and presenters are up for grabs and it works in all directions

hahaha that's a right laugh there - except of course when ITV are on the receiving end of course! Paul O'Grady anyone? Pathetic.

As neighbours only lasts for 25mins itv would just slot one ad break in th middle to fill a 30min slot, doubt we would get 3 breaks in 30mins like in Aus. Still it will be annoying if this does happen.

And if you saw the latest episodes on YouTube, you'd be grateful that if Neighbours does move to ITV, it won't be as fragmented.

That said, the thought of generic "blinds" credits (or worse, no credits at all) leaves me cold.

The programme only lasts for about 24mins, so why not just put a 3 minute break in the middle, and a 3 minute break at the end. I hope it does go to ITV, as I think they could have it at 1pm, on ITV1 (with the Lunchtime News back at 12:30) and a repeat of Neighbours at 5:30 on ITV2.
As for the closing credits, I think they should keep them positioned on screen as they are now, and on the left of the screen the ITV 'Now, Next & Later' menu would appear over the background like BBC ONE does, and don't do what ITV1 currenty do and slide the menu on screen.

I think you're on the right lines there, if he's doing what he originally did at LWT then he's probably raiding what's available as a short term measure whilst they build up 'new talent' or new ideas.

As poaching Neighbours from the BBC could be like when Grade originally did 'Snatch of the Day' and Bruce Forsyth about 30 years ago.

They wont do that, they will just put one break in it around about half way through - its lasts about 22-23 minutes for with a 3-4 minute advert break it will fit into the slot. The reason the BBC put it into a 25 minute slot is because they dont show adverts.

As for the credits, I hope ITV leave them as they are. With Home and Away they cut the end credits but that was because they were so long.

Surely this is also a matter of trust the viewer will have to place in ITV with the show. Others have already mentioned what happened in the 90s with Home and Away being cut to bits. My worry is what ITV have done with its other two teatime soaps in the past few years.

They brought back Crossroads and made a hash of it, dropping an episode when it didnt perform as well as expected before pulling it altogether after its pathetic relaunch.

Secondly, they lauched Night and Day and aimed it at the same market as Neighbours is aimed at. However, after six months they removed that from teatimes and shoved it to ever later graveyard slots before also axing it.

Given that poor treatment of two previous afternoon soaps that showed some promise, why should the Neighbours viewer trust ITV to treat it and the shows fans well?
