For goodness sake. ITV won't kill Neighbours, they aren't that stupid. If they are paying an ungodly amount per episode they will give it a fixed slot in which it will perform as well as it did on BBC1.

But will it though? As well as what they pay for the programme itself, the BBC subsidises Neighbours quite heavily and it may well have ended years ago without their input. If ITV are paying ridiculous amounts just for each episode, do you honestly think they will have anything left over to spend on the show itself?

As this thread has proved, people do care.

You dont know that will be the case. They cant make people watch it. Look how many viewers Home and Away lost when it moved. I know less people have access to Five but it was still a huge drop in viewers.

If it does go to ITV, there is not going to be a big gap like H&A, which was over a year wasent it?

If ITV get it i could turn out to be a goldmine for them. It has a hardcore loyal following, they will promote it more regulary then the BBC ever did.

Yes, plus it was off the air for a year. If there was a similar gap in transmission then we'd probably see a drop in viewers but I don't see any other reason why people would find it difficult to watch it on ITV.

They are still taking a risk assuming people will follow the show to ITV1. How many people watch the show out of habit after CBBC? Neighbours has had its day IMO and isnt even that popular in Oz.

Home and Away is the far better Oz soap IMO.

A few I'm sure, but CBBC doesn't attract 2.5 million viewers so a large bulk of the audience are people who weren't watching CBBC previously.

I would imagine the BBC have a similar clause in their contract - but then if they went and pulled the episodes themselves, they'd probably be breaking their contract leaving ITV free to pick it up.

And really - ads are a fact of life, so quit moaning. Neighbours is as intended to include ads as Coronation Street and Emmerdale, and it's never been a problem for them! Scheduling wise I can't see ITV putting it in any slot other than 5.30pm.

I'd be more worried about the quality of the programme - it'll be that, not a 3-4 minute break for ads, which will ultimately be responsible for it's slow and lingering death!

Going slightly OT, officially why was Shortland Street dropped from ITV? That would have been good in the 5pm slot.

As far as I aware that is still the most popular show in NZ... so it could be worth reviving here?

Exactly. I watch the show sometimes but can miss several episodes and still follow the story. Its one of those shows you can dip in and out of. Also some of the storylines are boring and stupid. Home and Away might be far fetched but at least its entertaining.

It was never networked on ITV which is why it was dropped. It was Carlton who showed it in their regions and they had no choice but to stop showing it when ITV took away the afternoon regional slots.

Oh come on, we're entitled to our opinion. Rolling Eyes

Basically I don't know but it seems the people who are happy for it to move to ITV clearly aren't loyal Neighbours fans and have been with the show since the beginning on BBC1. It's so easy for people who aren't fans to just turn round and say.. "Oh yeah, let ITV have it, its a waste of licence fee blah blah blah..". Well it isn't. Neighbours in the UK has ALWAYS been on the BBC and has ALWAYS been shown without adverts.. a trend the Neighbours viewer has grown to 'blend' with over the last 21 years. And Jez is right suggesting that Neighbours will lose viewers when it goes to ITV because it is often watched by habit on the BBC and thats partly another advantage to it. Who is going to actually going to bother to turn over to ITV to watch it.

CBBC bearly gets 2.5 hundred thousand thesedays, so it is a case of people tuning in specially to watch Neighbours rather than any inheritence from the previous programme
