I hope neighbours does move, preferably to Five so that they can make an Aussie soap hour with H&A.

It's time BBC One had a bid of a shake-up of their daytime and early evening schedule anyway. I can't see them being silly about the transition though in the same way ITV threw their toys out of the cot with H&A.

This could lead to CBBC getting kick to BBC2:

I would imagine so, to allow BBC One to carry a similar schedule to ITV1 from 3-6pm.

more likely bbc1 will get more cash in the attic repeats, or maybe Diagnosis murder and murder she wrote will be on after each other back to back.

All of BBC 2 pm progs would do better on bbc1 eg ready steady cook, through the keyhole, relegating the rather poor offering of CBBC to BBC2

No way - by partnering Home and Away with Neighbours Five would be seriously damaging one of their biggest assets.

They're barely mentioned in the same breath in Australia - H&A is leagues ahead of Neighbores.

I think Neighbours would be a great aqucistion for ITV1.

Do you think they will show it twice a day like BBC1? What times would they show it? Since the ITV Lunchtime News is at 1:30pm when will the afternoon showing be at?

The 5:00pm slot would be great, as it would give ITV1 a chance to catch viewers back who have gon to Channel Four with Paul O'Grady and Richard & Judy.

What are peoples views on the timing of Neighbours if it does go to ITV1?

You seem to forget that the ad break (not to mention the sponsorship, do you honestly think ITV would have Neighbours without one?) might be a strong deterrent for some viewers.

Teletext on ITV claims the BBC has threatened to withdraw Neighbours from its schedules "as early as the end of this week" as negotiations become ever more hostile. Now that really would be a waste of licence payers' money.

It doesn't stop them watching programmes on all the other channels!

That would be silly and irresponsible. Sure, start thinking about reorganising your afternoon and early evening schedule, but don't throw out a programmme while you still have the rights to show it.

But how much of the actual programme would get chopped just to accommodate them? I can well see ITV continuing Neighbours a 25-minute slot, as at present, but insert an ad break and you're likely to be left with just 20 minutes of programme.

And don't forget, people just aren't used to seeing Neighbours with ad breaks here. The "scrap the licence fee" brigade are oh-so-vocal but if their wish was granted would they be so happy having to suffer an ad break in the middle of EastEnders?

I doubt it. They ran Home & Away for 30 minutes. Most Aussie shows normally only run to 20 minutes anyway.

I actually doubt that the scissors will get taken to it that much, as it's not as adult a show as Home & Away was, which granted ITV did cut to shreds.

The best bet for everyone concerned is to have it go to Five. It will be treated very well there, and it'll bring viewers back to Home & Away too and vice-versa.

It was adult enough to warrant censorship in 1996 (the Billy/Melissa underage sex story). But this particular cut was laughable against Grange Hill's rape storyline in 2001 - you actually saw them getting dressed right after the event!

Currently, it is billed as having a 25-minute slot on BBC1 but it doesn't air for that long. I've watched Neighbours many years and it always starts at 17.36/7 and ends at 17.58. By my calculations, that would only leave about a 21/22-minute programme. If ITV or Five put it in a half hour slot, then it wouldn't need much, if anything, chopping from it at all.
