Some of you may remember that I was enquring about a Neighbours DVD and whether to trust an Australian website for it's purchase.

Well, I ordered it on the 20th, not sure what happened next as it took 4 days for an email to come through to say it's ready to ship and the DVD arrived on my doormat six days later on the 30th which isn't bad at all considering Santa Claus was about at the time.

As for the DVD, it is interesting from a presentation point of view as you get the episodes as they are aired in OZ, for example you probably can guess that the credits will have the Australians sponsors over them like Travelodge.

But, the bug bearer for me was that instead of getting the British equivalent of End of Part 1 for a commerical break, on this DVD, when it was time to go for a break, you would get a big Neighbours logo on screen, fade for a second and then it would continue again and it's on all episodes but it's a good walk down memory lane.

Just roll on next month so I can get the CD which has the "One Good Reason" song on it although it does have Stefan Dennis' song on the CD as well!

To be honest I think Neighbours is quite crap - lets be honest it doesnt come close to the British Soaps does it. I think Crossroads is going to be a lot better than Neighbours in 2003!

Neighbours was better in the ye olde days and I would never compare it to the British soaps, our ones are far more depressing!

What's making me depressed is that my signature image isn't working. Sad

Well Eastenders is another soap but I think most of the other british soaps like Corrie and Crossroads are great. The only overseas soap I like is Shortland Street which is back on ITV1 on Monday Smile

But lets be honest - Neighbours is CRAP!

Jez, I don't know if you're trying to stir everyone up, but please stop. This is a Neighbours thread -- people that post in it are likely to like Neighbours, there's no need to be so blunt. You're of course welcome not to like it, but I wonder if you've watched it for any length of time?

There's not *one* soap that's been on British TV in the last 12 years or so that I haven't tried at some stage or another, honestly all of them, and I do actually quite like Neighbours, and have watched it for about 14 years now. It can be a bit squeaky clean and a bit too Christian and moralistic, which I don't appreciate in a global soap, and there has yet only been one black character [and he was of mixed race and British], and still no Aboriginal characters, where Shortland St are justly representing Maori actors, and only one gay character [for about 3 days..]

But it can be quite funny, and it showed the only scene that made me cry of any soap ever [don't mind admitting, out of the hours of soaps I've watched I can't say I've cried that much then] -- and that was Madge's death, since it was excellently portrayed as what death often is -- painful and very upsetting, rather than a silent slip away.

So that's depressed everyone. Well anyway, I shall also look forward to One Good Reason and the sad one that starts, "and I know..." Smile
DVD is on its way to me at the moment, btw -- so I can't comment on it at the moment.

Yes TV Dragon ive watched Neighbours from 1987-1994, 1997-1999, 2001-2002 so yes I have watched it but yet again it has gone through a crappy patch!

SS has been constantly good and I think it has all the things Neighbours hasnt - Drama, Action, Affairs, Seiges etc

You can't compare neigbours to a brittish soap, they are quite clearly different.

*Cough* Neighbours has had many many affairs storylines! Why, the one that saved Neighbours from being cancelled altogether in 1998 was Karl's "non-affair" with Sarah Beaumont -- nothing happened apart from a few stolen kisses, but the epsiode where Susan found out got very high ratings in Australia -- and even got a trail here in the UK! The only other trail I remember in recent years was when it looked like Libby might've died in the 2001 finale. There have been many proper affairs though.

Oh and regarding finales, the 2002 one is being shown on February 19th here in the UK, and I won't post a spoiler, but let's just say something already mentioned becomes rather relevant again! Razz

And Neighbours has had a siege -- there was a siege in Ramsay St and Cody Willis got shot and died. Pam came back to be by her bedside.

Exactly nothing but a few kisses is hardly the affair of the decade is it - Shortland Street have had 2 earthquakes, the clinic blown up and one character killed, a murder, an armed seige, a character struck by lightening, numerous car crashes, a serial basher, and endless affairs.

It is much better than Neighbours will ever be.
