I'm sure Five will start hammering the publicity weeks before the start!

Probably get some Channel TEN style promos as well.

I'd love that, if half of those promos were true then most of the characters would be dead by now.

My information about it starting in February actually came from someone connected to Channel 5.

Neighbours.com have confirmed it.

2008 will also see Neighbours change broadcasters in the UK. The big switchover to Five will happen in early February and the channel are already preparing a whole host of extra goodies to entice viewers including exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.

Over at another forum one member who was at an event being filmed for a special show on Five was told of the episode number and worked out 4th February. Not too long at all.

If that's the case its surprising the BBC have held back episodes for just three or four weeks broadcast in the New Year.

You'd have thought they wanted to start the new year with the replacement in place - and Christmas scheduling could have provided them with the perfect excuse to burn off their remaining episodes at random points in the schedule.

I wonder if the BBC have decided to let Five have Neighbours early in exchange of letting go their director of programmes Jay Hunt who was appointed head of BBC One in early December from her contract. That may sound weird but weirder exchanges have occurred between TV companies.

I wonder if Five will showcase their new look when promoting Neighbours on and off screen?

Thanks Asa, so my source was right. I was at a similar event - probably the same one - and spoke to the crew so I suppose it was reasonably secure info from the start.

lol don't blame me it was BBC News I think who said it would not move till about March when the news came out Laughing

but the advertising for it should be good, wonder if they will have billboards with it on like Home and Away did?

I don't really see the point in promoting it - I actually think an overnight switch actually won't do the show any favours.

The only people interested really will be the people watching quite regularly- but on the other hand if it's left off screen for a few months, the more occasional Neighbours fan is far more likely to tune in when it relaunches on Five - and possibly stick with it.

IMO of course - but I know with Home and Away I wasn't really watching it during it's final months on ITV, but when it returned on Five you find yourself tuning in just to find out where it's up to and whether it's worth sticking around.

Neighbours Returns this week - 7 Jan

(thanks to David from http://www.perfectblend.net/)

An interview from Jackie Woodborne (Neighbours' Susan Kenendy) from Australian tv magazine.

Quote:

What has Susan done?
Falling asleep at the wheel, Susan runs over Bridget - then flees the scene!

Tragedy strikes in Erinsborough this week when Bridget is hit by a car and left for dead. Running off after an argument in the park with Declan, Bridget finds herself in the path of a car that's lost control! But there's an even greater shock in store. As Bridget's life hangs in the balance, we discover that the driver, who immediately leaves the scene of the accident, is none other than Susan. Jackie Woodburne talks us through this week's must-see episodes.

How does the accident unfold?
Susan's been feeling unwell for some time. Now she sleeps through and looks like missing a very important appointment that she's meant to be at for Rachel, so she panics and runs out the door. But she's so exhausted that she falls asleep at the wheel. As a result, she's not aware of the moment of impact. So she heads home, completely unaware that she's left Bridget in a very bad way by the side of the road.

How does she feel when she finds out Bridget was the victim of a hit-and-run driver?
She's horrified. Eventually, she puts two and two together and realises, "It wasn't the gutter I hit. It was Bridget!"

This would be a horrendous situation to be in...
Oh, absolutely. When Susan realises what she's done, she's absolutely devastated. And the damage she's done to Bridget is so serious. Susan's completely destroyed by it.

Susan then goes to the police and hands herself in to be formally charged.
Yes, she has to somehow try and come to terms with the repercussions of what she's done.

Will Susan ever get over the accident?
I don't think so. It really is one of those things that will never, ever leave her. It's heartbreaking. And we'll have to wait and see whether Bridget will be OK.

Road Toll
This isn't the first time a Ramsay Street resident has been hit by a car. Back in 1992, Todd Landers (Kristian Schmid) was struck down by a van while rushing across a busy road. He later died. In 1996, Cheryl Stark (Caroline Gillmer) was killed after being hit by a truck. And just last year, Cameron Robinson (Adam Hunter) was run down by Max Hoyland who mistook him for his evil twin, Robert. Cameron passed away a few days later in hospital.

According to what some people are saying, yes 25 episodes left on the Beeb. The launch date for the new look Five news is the 18th February, so it looks like it will have a weeks hiatus before launching on Five.
