Has Neighbours really been going since 1985?! Gawd that makes me feel old. I was only 7 back then. Helen Daniels, Madge Bishop and little Kylie as Charlene. Them were the days.

It started in October 1986 on BBC1 though but yes a very long run.

Neighbours is a brilliant soap, it is a lot more happy and upbeat than english soaps, although I am sure it is down to the overall stereotype of the enthusiastic "aussie"... much better than some of the depressing stories in other soaps!

I've been watch the up to date Neighbours all I can say is the quality has gone down the pan, hence why it lost 651,000 viewers. It needs shaping up.

Well you think quality has gone down the pan. You can't get worse acting than this... Laughing

But thats what makes Neighbours what it is.

I think the reason they've lost viewers is due to the fact there are no "family-orientated" scenes anymore (i.e the Mangels, Kennedys, Scullys etc). Its mostly stories about one or two particular people or new characters.

Former Hollyoaks star Benjamin Hart is joining the cast of Aussie soap Neighbours.

The 29-year-old actor - who played Foz on the Channel 4 show - will join the cast within the next month. According to the Herald Sun, producers hope that recruiting the British star will attract new viewers in the UK.

Hart will be the first of several new faces arriving on Ramsay Street to replace departing cast members. Janet Andrewartha - better known as Lyn Scully - has already left screens in Oz. Ben Nicholas (Stingray Timmins), Damien Bodie (Dylan Timmins), Nell Feeney (Janelle Timmins), Sianoa Smit-McPhee (Bree Timmins), Kyal Marsh (Boyd Hoyland) and Stephanie McIntosh (Sky Mangel) will also be leaving later this year.

According to their site it says approx 6 months behind, because they film 3 months before transmission date.
