I wonder if this is a plan by the BBC to oust Neighbours off BBC1?

Extremely unlikely. Neighbours fills around 200hrs of airtime a year for BBC One, gets decent audiences at teatime and so the BBC would have one hell of a hole to fill.

However, it maybe paves the way for dropping the lunchtime showing. By the looks of things though, it's one idea some journo found out in a mix of suggestions.

If it does go ahead, will this be the first time ever that Neighbours has been shown in Primetime, i personally think First Look Neighbours will do well, also has the possibillity of new fans watching who dont have the chance during daytime.

It's not the first time...

It was aired at 7pm once during Wimbledon in the early 90's.

Aye, it was shifted alot around Euro 96 which also clashed with Wimbeldon that year, so I recall it being on at 7.00pm for some nights. I remember when a few years ago they showed it at 12.30pm for a couple of weeks, though I cannot remember why.

They even moved EastEnders to 7.55 one night so Neighbours could air at 7.30. I think it was in 1993.

I do have a copy of the BBC 1 schedule from 1993 from a very old radio times and it does say Neighbours 7.00 Eastenders 7.30

I remember the reason they added the teatime episode of Neighbours was because kids skipped school to watch the lunchtime episode. The new episode was brought in at "Fax"'s cost.

I thought it was because of the director generals daughter at the time, told her dad that they need to put it on again in the evening.

I think both are true; kids skipped school and Michael Grade's (when he was controller of BBC ONE) told him it would be a good idea to air it in the early evening.

Not necessarily added but swapped about. They removed the mid morning edition and the first air edition would be at 1.30 and the repeat at the now usual 5.35 slot.

If I remember correctly the NEW episode was always at lunchtime then the repeat edition was originally repeated the next morning then moved it to the 535pm slot
