I missed his exit over here. What was it?
It was good to see Joe Mangel back.

In short, he left to be back with Toby to help him renovate his house.

I hope that he isn't going to end up being one of these characters such as Valda and Libby, who turn up for a few months, and then dissapear for a year again!

Well Joe Mangel's reapperance was after a 13 year (ish) break. I doubt he will make a comeback as a recent interview on the Neighboursfans forum said that he doesnt like the "gods" and didn't like the way he was treated. It's a shame as his stint was comedy gold.

Its a shame the other Joe (Scully) isn't coming back. Shane Connor was sacked after often not turning up for rehearsals/filming etc.

I don't suppose it matters but they need to tie off a few loose ends with him and Lyn. No doubt Lyn will get a phone call saying Joe has been killed by a cement mixer or something. Laughing

I'll Never Be Fat Again!
Sick of being called 'Fatso' the loveable larrikin has shed 20kg and is loving it

Ryan Moloney's recent health scare was a much-needed wake-up call which may have saved his life. at 108kg, the Neighbours star was dangerously overweight and living in the body of someone twice his 26 years. Taunted by strangers, Ryan was aware his weight was slowly killing him. But it was only after a health shock during a trip to Tasmania with his wife of two years, Alison, that the popular actor realised he had two options - lose weight or die young. "It was just over a year ago when we were on holiday... I was finding it incredibly hard to even go up a flight of stairs,"

Much as I like Val/Libby, I just get annoyed when they come and go... and it was a little wierd when Valda didnt go to Charlies funeral!

I like Valda. I wish she was a permanent fixture on Neighbours.

Its outlasted Brookside, Crossroads and Family Affairs but why? what is it about Neighbours that keeps it going? I have only ever seen the odd episode but I'm curious as to what it does right that other soaps seem to get so wrong.

Neighbours hasn't beat CRossroads just yet. On its original run Crossroads knocked up 24 years!!!! Even after its first re-incarnation and then the awful "GAY" second re-incarnation it has clocked up 26 years. Neighbours has another 6 years to go yet!!!!

Part of Neighbours' enduring appeal has always been its ability to modernise gradually whilst retaining familiar elements and characters as constants throughout.

E.g. revamps of the show's "feel" in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1996, then a low period in the late 90s until 2003 when Ric Pellizzeri took over and the show returned to a more dramatic pre-1995 style.

Also, reintroduction of characters every so often, familiar locations often redecorated, heart-warming theme music, sunshine, smiles, hunky guys and girls etc.

You name it, Neighbours appeals to all age groups and knows what to do to keep its fans happy (most of the time). It also has, of late, accepted humility and acknowledged when things have gone wrong or they've not produced an episode or series to the best standard.

Plus, Neighbours' fans are probably the most fiercely loyal and passionate group of fans of any TV show currently in production.

That's probably the most accurate account of why Neighbours is successful that I've heard.

I used to complain about the constant changing look of the programme, that the titles never stayed the same like in the UK soaps and things like that. In fact, they have a terrific brand that constantly gets refreshed without any massive changes that affect the viewer (imagine if EastEnders or Corrie were to change their titles - the viewers are so little used to change that they'd take ages to bed in).

Yeah Neighbours is great, I think they say teenagers and people in Uni etc tend to watch it the most, but then again my nan watch's it so it is for all ages.

I'd agree with that. Me and the people in my kitchen at uni sit and watch it every weekday. Its not like we've got anything better to do Rolling Eyes
