Indeed, and stick a gnome in the bottom right hand corner and you can fill another two-and-a-half hours in the middle of the night AND fulfill part of your remit for the sign language community too!

The show looked a lot better on five, not sure about the filmic effect, but it certainly was broadcast at a higher bit rate.

I'm disappointed that a needless filmic effect has been added to Neighbours, to coincide with the show's debut week on five.
It looks awful and flickery on interior scenes shot in the studio, but doesn't look too bad on sunny daytime outdoor scenes.

Overall though, Neighbours will always look best without a faux film added in post production, as it's always been. If they're
now taking steps forward by producing the show in high definition, why take several steps back by ruinling the additional
technical quality offered by HD, by making it look like it's been shot on film. The filmic effect only works fine when it's
done right, on high budget dramas like Doctor Who and Torchwood, but not on comparatively low budget soaps

He said "comparatively" and he's right.

Some shows really suit it - if its done well. It works extremely well for River City, who do an excellent job lighting it accordingly.

anyone noticed at the end of neighbours in the start of the end credits the deep boom to launch into the music? Sure this wasnt like this on BBC?.

Theyre using different music for the closing credits.

Its a re-mixed version of the theme with no vocals. Its used in Australia monday-thursdays and the full theme is still used every friday.
I wonder if this will be the case on five?

Here's the credits that are used on five from an episode on Ten:

You would think with the credits being so short that five wouldnt talk all over it, or squeeze it. Shame really.

I know it's only been four days but it seems wierd watching Neighbours on Five. Memories of the BBC will be with me for a little while longer. Hoping that Five that will do what Network Ten does and have a longer theme this afternoon/evening.

Hmm regarding the bitrate.. BBC One on Freeview is 4.6mb/s constantly and Five is variable, eg: the average bitrate for Neighbours was 2.4mb/s not sure what it is on Sky. [both at full res, 720 x 576]

I thought that quality seemed less and it's been proved.
