I can't see 'Out of The Blue' being a huge success. It sounds like yet another paint by numbers self-important Soap that takes itself far too seriously. Everything Neighbours isn't and the reason for it's popularity over here.

How the hell can you tell if you haven't seen even a minute of it?
I did wonder if the film effect was coming in - all clips shown in the documentary yesterday afternoon had the effect on it. I'm not sure I really see a need for it but I've got quite used to it now thanks to Home & Away so it doesn't bother me too much.
It raises an interesting question though - I've always assumed that Home & Away went "filmic" because that's how they started to make it, although now I'm wondering if it's made in the full frame rate but Five apply the effect.
About 5 years ago Home and Away was filmic for about 2 weeks, its currently not. (unless your viewing and HD version in SD)
As for Neighbours being filmic and extremely dark now I find the show hard to watch even if I do try and bother.
Presumably The Weakest Link is taking up residence in the 5.15pm slot permanently, and it seems alot of effort to go to for a show just shown in daytime, especially when they've got Doctors already.
If it just was another Australian soap it be understandable commissioning it to fill the void, but it seems rather stupid - and treating the audience like idiots too - to think that now they've lost Neighbours, they'll basically make their own.
It's also questionable whether licence fee money should be used to produce what essentially is an Australian soap.
Not a bad programme actually tonight, but completely ruined by Kirsten O'Brien's very patronising commentary, especially reminding us all the time that Alan Fletcher is 50.
Whilst I saw a slight funniness with the Alan Fletcher is 50 line, I could not believe she actually came out with "there's real people living in those houses on Ramsay Street" No way!
Although Kirsten did say the same people have lived in the same houses for over 20 years, however I do remember a few threads on the Neighboursfans.com forum saying that the house Paul Robinson lives in was being rented out and they even went as far as giving a URL for the estate agent.
I know for a fact that the house that used to be known as The House of Trouser is occupied by a nurse who moved to Oz from the Uk only 4 years ago!!!! Who did the research for the programme???

I'm probably in the minority but I thought the filmic look didn't look too bad compared to other shows like Casualty and Home and Away, obviously most people aren't going to like it but to me it didn't distract from what was going on on screen.
BTW anyone notice the Ten logo at the end of Neighbours?
I too didn't find the Film effect to bad, i actually thought it added something to the feel of the programme. Neighbours is filmed in HD so maybe when its downscaled to SD you still get a better picture quality than if it was filmed using SD cameras thus meaning you get a better effect when adding the film effect?!? (think this is one for Noggin to answer).
I did think we would end up with the Aus close inc 10 sting when 5 took over. Reason being H&A has always had the 7 network sting at the end of it on ITV & 5. Think it was probably the BBC didn't have to show it as once upon a time they were involved editorially and had input on the show. Also i guess it depends on the contract 5 have with Fremantle.
It is so sad that Neighbours has now departed the BBC, but I really can not believe that BBC One England ended Neighbours off like this -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuacebuyCfU . They did not even say goodbye to Neighbours, or at least acknowledge it.
I quite agree. It came across as petty and vindictive on the BBC's part. The ties have been so strong between the BBC and Neighbours for 22 years, especially in the early years.
I thought they should have had the grace to rise above any hard feelings, by making a quick light-hearted comment, like: "and BBC1 wishes the residents of Ramsay Steet all the best", so it wouldn't draw attention to the move to Five but would just show a bit of goodwill and at least acknowledge the end of a long relationship!
No, Petty and childish would have been leaving a long gap between the move, or dropping the show to a graveyard slot when the news was first announced last May.
