Erm .. didn't this exact same storyline happen about 15 years ago??

Yep, the "Waterhole", as it was known then, blew up in c.1993, in the days of Brad Willis and Annalise Hartman - in fact, I think those two were trapped in the pub (or maybe Brad and Beth? Can't quite remember!). So, they're basically ripping off the work of previous story writers, thinking that nobody would remember that far back. It's a shame really, but there's only so much you can do in a soap. Most of the original writing nowadays is a bit tacky. I've been an avid Neighbours viewer for many years, and continue to watch just out of habit, not merit. If I'd never seen it before, I certainly wouldn't stick with it now.

If I remember correctly I think Steven Gottlieb was left in a wheelchair after this event.

I liked the way they changed the Endcap to show the Pub in flames etc

Great episode today, the new opening titles are rubbish though.

Btw the actress who plays Lyn's aunt in Neighbours is the actress who played Myra Desmond in Prisoner. Janet Andrewartha (Lyn) was of course also in Prisoner around the same time as Reb, as was Jackie Woodburne (Susan) as Julie.

A few of the new opening titles slides are very Home and Away in style.

As this thread is right next to "UKTV Product Placement" for a moment, it reminds me to ask who might have rushed along in the middle of a fire and given Toady a jacket with a small but readable Texaco logo on the front and a huge, screen filling one on the back.

I doubt the Aussies would have noticed the sudden change, the episodes being a month apart there, but over here it was pretty damn obvious that he wasn't wearing it in yesterday's but was in today's.

Might one cynically enquire whether Texaco might be the sponsors of the new series in Oz?

No, Quantas and Mercure Hotels are still the sponsors. Their credits still come up at the end of the episodes just before the Grundy endboard. Smile

And the caption 'Smoke Detectors Save Lives' appeared on the credits of both the 2004 finale and the 2005 season return episodes in Australia.

The Erinsborough site is experiencing technical difficulties. Apparently they had so many hits yesterday after the finale aired, it tripped the server.

I think it might be due to sommat else in spoiler land. I won't give anything away but a long server member of the cast is to have an heart attack but which one, well depends on if you want to follow your instinct!

Yes but surely Paul's reaction to when they meet today should be "I thought you were washed away" and not, Hello Harold!

But when Harold returned, Helen was still around, and presumably talking to grandson Paul. If someone came back from the dead, I'm sure it'd merit a mention in a phone conversation with him about what was happening in Erinsborough.

It was the first time I'd watched Neighbours in years yesterday. Great to see Stefan Dennis back in it. Don't It Make You Feeeeeel Good?

Massive spoiler from my mate in Oz! Only highlight if you want to know...

According to my friend, Karl Kennedy is to die next week in Australia. After being pushed to breaking point by Izi, he dies by himself on a country road from a heart attack. This should be on our screens sometime in June.

yes this is true. It happens on wednesday in Oz. Sure your mate in Oz isnt just www.neighbours.com?
