I'm dreading the ending though. One of the biggest episodes in Neighbours 20 year run is bound to be ruined by an ECP for "Comic Relief Does Fame Acadamy"
I was right. The credits were squashed and the announcer talked right to the Grundy logo at the end.
This should be have been a better idea for the end of that episode was to show the fire burning with just the Neighbours logo and then just with production caps to mark end of show but by having the jolly theme tune at the tune doesn't really do that fire any justice!
I might need to view it again later but I think the BBC have been picking out frames to get the episode length down as the Oz version has Paul walking around (albeit a few second) the crowd before the zoom into his face but the UK one just goes straight into his face but that might be mind playing up.
I didn't really enjoy the fire scenes much but then I have watched it over and over the last few months so I knew what to expect but I did enjoy Steph and her grandad's scenes very much. On the whole it is a good episode it's just a shame there has been any promos for it because something like this may have bought back older fans who have the show who have since lost touch with the programme.
Quite shocked for my nan to remember Paul Robinson, as soon as he appeared i pointed to the screen and said "Look" and she goes "it couldnt of been him, he used to own the complex" I didnt know that she used to watch the show ages ago though.
I've just checked the Australian TX version and the BBC haven't removed anything. It's exactly the same as it was in Australia but without the full length credits and break bumpers.
Fair enough but it looked like they just cut straight to his face rather than getting into shot. Me mind is playing tricks!. Still the best bit is when Harold, Lou and Paul meet up tomorrow. Will Paul think Harold is still dead after all, Harold should be washed away by sea, will Paul tick about that. I won't spoil the surprise but this is Neighbours after all
That's twice the Coffee Shop's gone up in flames now, isn't it? (IIRC it happened in the 90's when Mrs Mangle (sp?) was around). You can tell I don't watch it much!
Yep that episode happened dead on New Year's Day 1990! Did a fire take place at Lassisters shortly before the 2000th episode?
Still, they are buggered for a community point now. The kids can't go to the Coffee Shop, the adults can't go to Lou's Place but I guess they will have all that covered. It will be quite amusing to see how quickly they can knock a similar set up again because in real time, the pub and coffee shop would probably take 6 months to a year to be rebuild.

What about grease monkey's, that is a central point in the community. The burning down of Lassiters sees a shift in the centre of the soap. Plus the reopening, will probably co incide with the 20th aniversary.
For full length credits with no voice over try Network two tonight, thou i think they have a voice over, but the repeat is tomorrow morning on RTE and it has full ozzie creidts and no voice over.
I've never really seen Grease Monkeys as the a vocal point for anyone really. Still with the fire, it's all forced to change now and Neighbours will not be the same. Still, in the days of the Waterhole, the front door use to be where behind the bar is on Lou's Place. But the exterior shots of both places remained the same. Work that one out!
The actual 20th anniversary in Oz apparently is in a few weeks but the actual bringing everyone together although rumours at the moment is a funeral to get one big gathering. Hardly celebratory but there you go.

I just looked it up at Ramsey-street.co.uk and it was shown on 29/12/89 on the BBC. I'm really surprised I can remember TV from back then, because I can't remember what I got for Christmas that year! It was back in the day when my mum used to watch it often, so maybe that's why it stuck in my mind.
According to EmpireOnline's official Neighbours thread, in the new series Stuart will discover he's blind and the local community hall gets turned into the makeshift Coffee Shop.
And you can also expect a new look to Neighbours from tomorrow.
