Since there's an ongoing thread for Home And Away, I'm starting this one for Neighbours, especially since
it's watched by more people in the UK than Home And Away. This thread begins with the following news:

According to perfectblend.net (unofficial Neighbours website) . . .

Quote:

Joe Mangel Returns

Feb. 22 2005

The Perfect Blend can exclusively reveal that one of Ramsay Street's most legendary characters, Joe Mangel
will definitely be returning to the show for a lengthy stint as part of the show's 20th Anniversary Celebrations.
"Mark Little's doing an extended 3 month stint with us mid-year, returning as Joe, of course,"
script producer Luke Devenish has confirmed.

Well this Thursday sees the 'End of 2004 season' episode being shown.

Maybe it is watched more but I would have to argue that Home & Away is much better. With Home & Away I find it really hard to guess what's going to happen where as with Neighburs you spot it a mile off!

Have to agree Neighbours has had quite a poor year.

Home and Away is far superior and is now much more of a drama than soap - though I have to admit they've gone over the top on some occassions. There's only so much turmoil one family could take!

There's actually been suggestions that the BBC would axe Neighbours - though the first I'd heard of this was when the BBC denied it!

It's only more popular because it's more British in style, and also because of the fact that the Five sale and resulting channel change killed most of the audience off in the UK.

Home & Away thrashes Neighbours down under.

And to be fair Home & Away is technically, directorally and dramatically far superior to Neigbours. I'd go as far to say that it's better than any of the British soaps. The scriptwriting is far better produced. The production values are excellent. It's genuine escapist viewing. Neighbours on the other hand is little more than Crossroads MKII with Australian accents when you weigh it all up.

Home and Away is better than any British soap - what a load of cobblers!! Home and Away was good when Pippa was in it and it wasn't so centralised around a few teenagers but had a nice mix of mature and young characters now it's no better than Hollyoaks...

I don't believe Corrie and Eastenders has steeped as low as bringing a character back as a ghost just yet (although Dirty Den coming back was a bit naff) so I think just maybe they're slightly better somehow....

Anyone know if the Beeb has made a trailer for the season finale, as they did with Toadie and Dee's ill-fated wedding?

Well no trailers yet but the continuity announcer on Friday evening's repeat did tell us to look foward to an explosive week next week with the Australian Season finale which would probably mean very little to people not aware of the two month stop in production in Oz or for people who know what to except with thanks to the internet!

Well I don't watch Home and Away, so I can't comment, but I am a stalwart fan of Neighbours, and I would have said that is has improved greatly over the past few years. And I certainly hope that the BBC doesn't axe it. If it did, would another British TV channel show it ?ie. five.

Just been looking at the Perfect Blend site and note that up to 20 old cast members are set to return for the show's 20th birthday.

Lucy will be joining Paul, Doug Willis and, as mentioned Joe Mangle are some of the bigger names to return.
