Since when did you have the necessary knowledge and authority to state that "industry insiders" don't take the awards seriously? Do you realise how much of a snob you sound?

You've made up a quote there. I didn't say "industry insiders", I said the "TV industry". To find their opinion of the NTAs, all you need to do is flick through a newspaper.

In what way is it snobbery? There is such a thing as the working class, and they lead a different lifestyle to other classes. Anyone who doubts that is very foolish. I've been working class for most of my life, although since starting my job I'm probably lower middle class. I wasn't suggesting that working class lifestyle is anyway inferior to other classes.

The whole thing appears to have been a farce. GMTV, Shane Richie, Jessie Wallace... all their respective awards were completely undeserved. And then to cap it all the awful Trevor MacDonald wins the Special Achievement Award.

Thank God we still have the BAFTAs - some sensible awards.

No it's just the way you've approached the whole thing in this thread - as if it's below you. Just chill out and consider this point - It's just a TV programme. Don't use it to determine yours and others positions in our country. I know you weren't saying that the WC are inferior - it's just the way you've come across all evening that's all.

Awful ? He has been around for decades, been there for many world changing events and interviewed some of the worlds most influential people. Certainly more worthy than any of his latter day counterparts. Looking back at that tribute they showed to him, the man is a legend Rolling Eyes

Good gracious, GMTV sure looked smug when they showed us their NTA award nearly half an hour ago.

Just one question - on the clip of Trevor McDonut reporting on the death of Diana - it had him sitting in the "ITV News" studio with all the lights out - They didn't have that studio that early did they ('97)?

You mean the current one? I think that arrived along with the new BBC News studio in 1999, certainly wasn't around back then. Anyone got any captures?

From these captures, it seems that a curtain has been pulled along the back:

Fair enough - perhaps I was a tad harsh and a tad hasty. I just don't like him, but then I suppose that's no reason to deny him an award!

I know this will sound silly, but the 'Most Popular Serial Drama' should be based on the ratings for the past year. Coronation Street would definately have won this year if this was the case.

I think he's awful too. He may have been around for decades but that doesn't make him any good.

His voice gets on my nerves, the way he moves his head, it's all just so false and awkward.

Why they get him to host the National TV Awards, I've no idea - he's even worse on that than he is on the news!

Probably so they could surprise him with the award at the end! There was a clip of him backstage being relaxed and normal and he seemed alright. He just needs to relax when he's reading the news and it wouldn't be as gruelling to watch.

I have to say I agree.

I think that's the old News At Ten set. On closer inspection, it's not the current set anyway.
