Hardly any shows are "live" as such . they have to have a delay, just incase!

And that's why award shows don't attract the audiences they used too - the Brits especially. It's ridiculous really the live delay on UK broadcasts is generally at least 5 minutes, but the more prudish US networks can do all the editing they need with just a 7-second delay.

You have to blame Ofcom for that really. I think most shows that are broadcast on a delay started off live but due to something happening (usually pre-watershed swearing) people complain to Ofcom and the broadcaster says they will 'take steps to make sure this doesn't happen again' in return for Ofcom letting them off and that's when they bring in a delay.

Could you explain that one?

yeah , why would the amount of delay affect the ratings?
It's only really if their on the following night ( and therefore reported in the papers ) that it makes any difference.

Loose Women mentioning the NTA and how to vote for them on every episode for the past couple of weeks has paid off then.

Notice the Floor Manager was trying to get Carol McGiffin to hurry up and get off the stage.

Exactly - the broadcaster won't take the risk (though to be fair to OFCOM, they usually take an understanding approach) - and removing the risk removes the reasons to watch.

Anyhow, turning into a farce now. And they say democracy is a good thing!

Now, let's see if it's Brucie's turn for the special recognition award, though Jedward are of course more deserving! Wink

Please don't get a TV phone vote confused with a democracy. See it more as a tax on the stupid.

Is Bruce Forsyth there? I haven't noticed him.

"And make some noise" - that sounded like Biggins.

It's Fry then. Not a bad choice.

Hope Paxman wasn't there - he might have been getting his hopes up. They didn't need to make up the new travel category then!

I thought that's what you were driving at.

I couldn't disagree more. Each to their own I suppose, but I would watch an awards ceremony for the awards - not to potentially see some car crash ensue.

Apart from that, if I had kids watching (perhaps to see Doctor Who win or somesuch), I wouldn't want them witnessing a drunken twit effing and jeffing pre-watershed - if a simple delay could prevent it.

But then, some people live for vicarious thrills - so if that's your thing, buy a ticket and watch it in the venue.

I wonder if Stephen Fry will say something similar to Spike Milligan when he collected his British Comedy Award.
