Looks like Paul O'Grady's heart attacks arent enough to secure him a win anymore. The bar has been heightened.

So Unless I'm blind EastEnders are the only soap to have won an award or two tonight? Surprised

Sad lovesick teenagers pining over Robert Kazinsky voting in the masses.

Corrie beats EE hands down everytime - it's clear which soap is the most popular, despite what the "National Television Awards" might suggest. Smile

But of course if Corrie won last night and EastEnders didn't your option would be the other way round,Right? Rolling Eyes

Wonder which Corrie "Star" will come out moaning first?

Obviously, because that would mean the NTA's had got it right! Laughing

I really want to know who you are on DS. Most of them are as irritating as you.

I really don't give a damn about the NTA's. I like the BAFTAs, and agreed with their decision this year when EE was given the BAFTA because it had a better year in 2005 than Corrie. However, the tables have turned in the past few months yet EastEnders wins the NTA again.

Who's voting?

EastEnders fans? I suppose unlike Granada, the BBC don't pump out fake hype about their soap. Corrie fans just expect it to win, usually on the back of how great ITV say it is.

ITV might say its great, it doesn't mean it is. The ITV50 fix so they could just boast its the best show ever from ITV has no doubt been believed by the Corrie massive. For most people however, I expect that that show being 'voted' the best ever just shows the rest can't have been that good.

The viewers voted for the top 50 ITV programmes didnt they? Surely not that much of a surprise Corrie won, afterall its the longest running and one of the most popular shows to come out of ITV over the years.

I'm sorry, but if EE won best soap when quite frankly it's been utter tripe, then these awards mean **** all.

Hence I won't give tonight's show a second of my time.

I notice Banks couldn't wait to put the award on his EE thread - despite the fact the awards haven't been televised yet.

Oh he does that every time EE win an award. I like the way he is trying to suggest EE is better than than the other soaps just because they won 2 awards and Corrie didnt Rolling Eyes

No, they put the shows picked by ITV into some sort of order, the pointless exercise of "add another ITV show" box was useless, as it wasn't used.

I would say a one-off drama might be the "best" thing ITV have ever made, but something screened 20 or 30 years ago isn't going to be in the minds of the public like a long running soap is.

I see MikeGNE posted a similar post on Digital Spy. I think Coronation Street is good only because Granada say so, apparently.

IMO, Coronation Street is a vastly superior drama to EastEnders. The ratings show which one is the Most Popular.

I don't agree with EastEnders winning. Its voted for by seeming 'teens' (looking at its fanbase online at least) and both soaps are as bad as each other these days. I don't think either of them deserve to win.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are pantos, although Emmerdale is heading down the sensational, "lets fill some time with a disaster/explosion" route too and EastEnders is written like its for 12 year olds.

If we go on ratings, that means Crossroads was fantastic. The ratings for the 1970s show that although Corrie had 1 episode at number 1, at least two episodes of Crossroads had higher ratings than the second Corrie episode. So which is the real winner?

Ratings are only partly the factor. Anyway, as someone said ratings are not something I totally believe. There have been shows that have (certainly on radio) tested the ratings. And the "most listened to" programme a few years ago on one station asked for those who took part to call/write/email and no one got in touch.
