Awful awards staging this year. If they can't utilise the space at the O2 effectively then they should get back to the Royal Albert Hall.

Very unimpressed. Time for a revamp for 2014. Dermot didn't impress me either. Reinstating Sir Trev would be nice but a more competent presenter than Dermot was tonight would be a start.

Talking of Sir Trev, I don't think he'd be impressed that the NTA's is making News at Ten 6 minutes late!

I found Trevor as dry as a Ritz cracker.

Why would you even want the show in a massive hall? Stick it in the London Palladium and get someone like Stephen Fry to host.

The only thing I admire about Dermot these days is his unflinching hairline. He seems altogether too delighted with himself now.

This was the worst NTA ceremony I've seen. Crap host, far too many mistakes with the lighting, the cameras, and the direction, and the sound, the crap theme tune (yet again), and June Brown's cack reading of the nominations.

An awards ceremony needs a good presenter and orator. Trevor McDonald did it in a straight-laced manner, but was an excellent speaker. Dermot O'Leary is a bit all over the place, and has far too gravelly and indistinct voice to host an awards ceremony.

They need to move it to a venue where the sound is better, have a decent host (Peter Kay did quite well at the poorly-produced BRITs that year he did it), and rehearse a bit more.

I used to love the Sir Trev era! I vividly remember the year they turned the tables on him too by awarding him the Special Recognition award Laughing

Does anyone have the pre 2008 intro? (seen below). They slightly remixed the theme tune from 2008 and now it is virtually non existent Rolling Eyes

Have to agree with all of this, and when you compare it to the Emmy's or the Golden Globes, it's just embarrassing! I didn't count, however I saw someone mention there were 12 sets of adverts!

Trevor was awful - Dermot is better in the roll but I do think familiarity breeds contempts with all awards shows and it is best to change the host either annual or every few years.

The NTAs though played out as the NTAs do - but really great to see Joanna Lumley get the special recognition award - a truly deserving winner and great it was kept under wraps both from us and from her.

I do think though it's a shame the Landmark award was awarded to London 2012 as a whole - considering this is supposed to be televisions night it would have been nice to see the BBC coverage not just of London but over the last 50 years of the Olympics officially recognised as the people who actually bought the games to our living rooms do seem to be very much the unsung heroes of the Olympics and Paralympics.

Perhaps a duo could host in future.. i.e Armstrong and Miller I reckon would be good.

The production was pretty shoddy last night, what on earth was with the lighting especially when Joanna first walked on stage?

I'm afraid I'm not keen for Stephen Fry to do it, I'm afraid as great as he may be for some people I find him rather boring on TV, and the thought of 2½ of live TV with him already sends shudders down my spine.

Someone who isn't overly busy but is a good 'ITV-face' that they could is Griff Rhys-Jones. They only dust him off once a year on It'll be Alright on the Night so perhaps this could be a new venture for him to be used on. Though how competent he would be compering an awards ceremony could be anyone's guess.

Otherwise it's likely it'll be one more job for Vernon Kay or the likes where it'll fall flat on its arse.

I thought the NTAs were fantastic before Dermot took over and it essentially became an X Factor final. Give the show a bit of elegance again, please!

Stephen Fry would be a banker for ITV, considering his award ceremony experience. Likewise with someone like Noel Edmonds. Someone like Tim Wonnacott would be miles better than Dermot O'Leary or Griff Rhys-Jones (who I find intensely boring, and a distinctly average presenter).

In fact, I'm going to list some people I'd like to do it over Dermot O'Leary.
  • Tim Wonnacott
  • Stephen Fry
  • Brian Blessed
  • Alastair Stewart
  • Nick Hewer
  • Clive Holland
  • Ayla Karol
The list could go on and on.
