Knowing these awards it'll be somebody under an ITV contract. Ant and Dec, Michael Barrymore, Robson Green, Chris Tarrant, Caroline Quentin. Need I go on?
If you want to give that specific award some credibility give it to The Two Ronnies or at least someone ITV hasn't employed in the last 12 months.

I wonder who'll get the special achievement award this year - knowing the NTA's it probably be someone like bloody Natasha Kaplinsky!
I think Bruce Forsythe is a strong candidate - IIRC many people here thought he should have got it last year in the wake of his Strictly Come Dancing comeback!

It's already started.
ITV don't do very well - Ha ha ITV must really be disapointed, its about time they put on something decent, get rid of Charles Allen... etc
ITV do well - Its a fix because its on ITV, such and such awards are fairer...
They are in a lose/lose situation here

The fact remains that the awards ARE voted for by the people and I have no problem with that even though the general public have a hard time thinking outside of the David Jason/Ant and Dec/soaps box; that's why it's so pleasing to see Doctor Who in the mix. I'd love it to win just to break the soap's stranglehold on these awards.
However, what I really object to is the special recognition award ALWAYS going to someone on ITV!!

Unfortunately they seem compelled to include nominees from EastEnders, even though it's "rough patch" is now coming up to three years!
Some great emissions from the Best Actor / Actress / Drama categories, for example Julie Walters in Ahead of the Class - just one of numerous critically acclaimed ITV drama premieres, and the vote I'd make if nominated, Shameless - which with the exit of Steve was the best piece of drama I'd ever seen!

Id love to see Dr Who win Best Actor and Billie Piper win best actress. Doctor Who is the only BBC show that deserves some awards. And if it means that Nigel Harman doesnt win an award thats a bonus.

Has anyone got that feeling that EastEnders will sweep the board? Shane Richie will win most popular actor instead of a proper actor, and then EastEnders will win best soap? I can just picture Barbara Windsor going up to collect it?
Who won best soap last year and the year before?
Who won best soap last year and the year before?

Ahh - The NTA. A totally pointless piece of television which was formally created to provide Grampain Television with an excuse to go to the ITC and say it forfilled it's peak time network television quota.

Heh, this time of year again.
As I always say, the awards do have an ITV bias, as they are heavily promoted on ITV platforms, and are shown on ITV1. It's always the same with these "voted by the public" awards. No they weren't, they were voted by the people who voted.
The people who interact with ITV are more likely to be CDs than ABs. This is why most of the winners are more 'popular' than critically acclaimed. But then, we have the BAFTAs/RTS for that.
