Strange they didn't edit out a similar question from a recent edition of Eggheads, by the same production company.

It could be they didn't have enough time to edit the question from Eggheads as it was pretty close whent he death was announce (think it was in the same week). That said, IItWI is a more light hearted quiz so there would've been banter between Dale and the contestant regarding McQueen in some form (never heard of him, is he alive etc...).

Also you'd have been editing out the last question, on the Eggheads episodes, so it would have looked quite odd.

going a little off topic, it used to be the case (and may still be - I've not watched it for ages) that repeats of Eggheads on Challenge would have one round edited out, so that they could fit a 30 minute slot with an ad break. No mention of this was made...

I'd hazard a guess it was exactly the same question on both shows, but only edited out of "In It To Win It".

Okay, so it wasn't In It to Win It, but I was watching the Midweek Draws tonight. I thought it was kinda funny that Alan Dedicoat was rather obviously taking the p!ss out of Drawmaster Matt after the two occasions the draw man was invited to speak - he was making banal comments in his very boring voice causing Alan to laugh.

This made me think - I've don't think I've seen a draw without Alan as Voice of the Balls. Surely he takes a holiday or is off ill sometimes, so does anyone know who the standby voiceover is? Who else has done the V/O gig in the past?

The stand-in is Charles Nove another Radio 2 Newsreader. It does seem to be very rare Alan is off though.

Didn't Sid Waddell do it on that awful show with Lulu?

He did, but was dropped after one show, and Sid said he knew it was doomed to failure as he simply couldn't read the numbers on the balls when they came out of the machine. Also, he was rubbish, he'd say things like "21! That's seven double seven!" which is just pointless.

Charles Nove is, as has been said, Deadly's stand-in, but he doesn't do it very often and he's not that good at it, but then he doesn't have any of Deadly's brilliant catchphrases ("If you're after a bonus... here's one!"). I wish they'd stop doing that pointless but at the end when they rattle through who's doing the draws for the next week, who cares? I should watch this less often.

For a while (or well when his voice was still on BBC anyway) Mitch Johnson off Live and Kicking used to do it now and again too...

Thanks for the info. Here's the iPlayer link to where the Matt/Scott exchange takes place followed by Alan stifling a laugh, causing Scott to grin and then a bit of mickey-taking with the "Yeah, let's!". All rather subtle, but made me laugh.

Now they have Thunderball on Friday does Alan make an appearance then, or is it just the EuroMillions host doing the numbers as they used to do?

I often mistook Alan for Mitch. Is it me or do they sound pretty similar?

They do.

John Marsh has also served as voiceover in the past IIRC.
