It's because they have to cobble laughter and clapping together 'cos, imo, the presenter couldn't do her job...so all the laughter and whatnot first time round had to be canned.
we had to do 1.5 minutes of solid clapping for them to record before the show, so they could dub it in later....

I noticed this on iPlayer and gave it 15 mins of my time.
One way you can tell it's BBC Scotland is the terrible crane shots they use when they cut away from people are on the 'destination path' or whatever at the start of a new round. The wobble on them is incredible - it's almost like nobody looked at the output during recording. It's really, really bad.
.. also, the high number of Scottish contestants would give it away too. Note, they don't tend to ask people where they come from at the start of a new round.
I won't be watching again.

I'm not surprised I saw her try to tell a joke and the silence was deafening. Hosting light entertainment shows requires a certain level of skill. It's not the same as general presenting. Put it this way can you imagine Blind Date with Fearne Cotton, The Generation Game with Tess Daly or Noel's House Party with Dermot O'Leary? How crap would those shows be?
This new wave of presenters are not in the same league as Noel, Cilla, or Brucie. They are competent but not entertaining to watch.
