This is interesting. Its like a quizshow wrapped in a talent show format.

Basically the contestants audition and need to answer questions given by the judging panel - which consists of Myleene Klass (when is someone going to give her a proper contract!), William G Stewart (well its great to see him back on the box and its sounds like Fifteen to One everytime he reads a question) and Kate Garraway......yeah. Then its usual talent show format of getting through to the second round etc. The eventual winner will win "the greatest amount of money the BBC has ever given away!".. according to host Jamie Theakston.

The only flaw is the fact because its recorded - fitting in the live lottery draws seems a little out of sync with the whole show.

"What type of creature is a Puffin?" - "A dragon"....

Wonder what Oscar would make of that!

There's a very obvious reason why Bill is on the panel, but why the other two? Is it purely eye candy to offset the unattractive but knowledgable geeks that take up screen time? Would have preferred 2 other well known inquisitors.

Laughing Didn't see that one but the "spiderman" bloke was a bit weird. His best Q&A:

Q: Which Eurovision winning group was Cheryl Baker in?
A: Spice Girls Laughing

This was odd, trying so hard to be the X-Factor with questions.

The choice of panel strange too.

Exactly what everyone seems to be thinking!

I don't think having 3 "William G Stewarts" would work but the others should be known for being "inquisitors" of some kind, but of a different genre. A newsreader would be an obvious choice (does Garraway consider herself a newsreader?) while the third should probably be more entertainment/music based - but of more status than Klass.

Oh dear, how poor the Lottery has got, the bbc might as well comission a quiz for saturday nights, and show the draws in a 10/20 min programme like on wednesdays.

This is what seems to be happening from next week

"The National Lottery Peoples Quiz" will air at 6.15 and therefore will have no connection to the lottery at all as you can still buy tickets at this time

There will then be a second programme at 8.45

They should rename it to 'The Coca-Cola Peoples Quiz' next week. It would be just as relevant as its current title.

No doubt she'd have been called Cooking Spice, then. Laughing

It was a good show - I will watch it again! Certainly better than Eamonn Holmes, Dale Winton or Mark Durden Smith.

Surely, the ideal National Lottery Show the BBC should screen around the year are:-

Winning Lines
1 vs 100
Come and Have A Go
The People's Quiz
We've Got Your Number

Instead, we get the usual dross from the 3 named personalities above most of the time... Rolling Eyes

I noticed last week that the canned clapping has sneaked back into the draws.

OK, I haven't watched since the Noel Edmonds special when they (first) moved the draws to the new studios - where generally they do work better as a seperate show within a show (or on their own as often lately).

However, the canned clapping is even more annoying now there is no pretence they're in a studio - but the presentation itself it still filled with annoyances such as the "timechecks" from Alan Dedicoat. Isn't it time he was dropped?

As for shows - I still think the classic set up is the best lottery show for most of the year round - a simple programme including the draws, a bit of music and a couple of losely lottery based features.

And I still think the best Lottery "Game Show" as they've all become is probably the one that started it all, The National Lottery Big Ticket - and considering how badly that was received at the time that says alot!

Oh, and Winning Lines of course, criminally axed to make way for more bloody In it to Win It, possibly the worst game show ever - made even worse by the fact if they sped it up a bit it might actually work.

(I absolutely hate how alot of quiz shows have ripped off Millionaire with contestants discussing the possible answers before giving an answer 20 minutes later!)
