Did anybody see the programme tonight? One of the guys from Stereophonics used the term "sexual explosions" just before the main Lotto draw. You can watch it here: http://bbc.co.uk/i/nxhrr/?t=7m02s

Myleene Klass apologised after the draw.

Wow. Someone really misjudged the situation unless there was something else said earlier in the show too. We should really complain about this or it is just going to get worse with presenters apologising on every show. I assume Myleene Klass was told to apologise rather than just doing it off her own bat. How can saying a meaningless phrase like 'sexual explosions' on a show at 22:35 be a bad thing? It is an irrelevant thing at worse. The BBC really shouldn't pander to Mediawatch and the like but if they are the only people to complain/comment then they probably don't have much choice.

If this occured on GMTV, the presenters would have a little chuckle about it and carry on. But oh no, auntie Sian and uncle Bill have to do their best 'we are not amused' face and verbally brush it under the carpet ASAP.

Just saying.

The BBC Trust doesn't help matters. They feel they have to be harsh to be fair most of the time...what a nonsense.

I'm getting fed up with this whole "we daren't offend anybody at all" attitude at the BBC these days. It's being run by po-faced dullards who are petrified at what the Daily Mail might be outraged by next.

Well firstly, Myleene asked what viewers can expect from the boys and he said "sex, with explosions" which I'd say is a bit more descript than "sexual explosions" and ever so slightly more offensive. I imagine the only reason she apologised is because the draw is repeated ad-nauseum on 'lotto extra' on Freeview etc?

Was there a warning before the show? Maybe the apology was for the lack of a warning?

I don't think it was that bad, it was 22:35 for goodness sake!

You are right. That is MUCH more offensive. Of course, what that IPlayer clip doesn't show is the continuity annoucement after the show...

"Once again, we'd like to apologise to any sexual active suicide bombers who may have been ofended by the comments made during The National Lottery Midweek Draws this evening".

I thought the apologies were over the top, the initial casual one was ok, but then when she formally apologised again at the end seemed a bit too much.

I wonder if Jodie Prenger with he shambolic presentation would have apologised in the same way

I think the initial one was just Mylene covering herself as in live TV you have only a split second to evaluate what has just been said, the other one could have been prompted by the gallery it only takes one over cautious producer, I'm sure it wouldn't have got anyone into trouble anyway.

What a silly thing to post Chie, for a start it's an irrelevant comparison you've made there as we're not talking GMTV or BBC Breakfast, but if we were it would have a lot to do with the target audience and the mood of the programmes aren't exactly the same, despite being broadcast at the same time.

Anyway I'm sure had the programme been broadcast on ITV and produced by the same company (Endemol) and team the apology would have still happened.

It's part of a wider problem within the BBC though Jon. They were discussing 'shagbands' on Breakfast on Tuesday morning. Sian said something along the lines of, "we're not going to use the actual word because it's early in the morning, so we'll just refer to them as 'bands'" - this was at 08:57 when children should've be at or on their way to school anyway. But I don't see what the problem is, because the word would've been used in the context of a debate about whether or not children should be allowed to wear the accessory in question.

Contrast that ridiculous insult of the viewers' intelligence with yesterday's episode of The Wright Stuff on Five, during which the words 'knob' and 'crap' were both used around about 10am - no hint of an apology was made. It was actually quite liberating that they didn't feel the need to apologise to the viewers! Imagine what would've happened if it'd been the BBC.
