I think I know which order of keys you were trying press to make that last sentence readable....
Why use sound effects? It's called atmosphere. It adds to what is seen on screen. I used to hate it, until I saw a draw on a episode of In It To Win To Win a couple of series back and It had none of clappin'and cheering (guessing it was a techie problem) and actually without them the draw had no energy to it.
Plus, Deadly Alancotes voice over sounded really harsh and compressed with far too much echo and treble. At least the 3,000 cheering hordes on the soundtrack covers that bit up!

Everyone - and to prove their live of course! Because we can't just take their word for it, can we...
The canned clapping seems to be random nowadays - some weeks they don't seem to use it, then other weeks it returns with avengence!
Some shows did work with the Lottery around them such as Winning Lines and Jetset - as they did have a (tediously) loose connection to the draw.
However, in most cases it's been a pretty good show needlessly scheduled around the National Lottery - such as 1vs100 for example, which despite a pretty good reputation before it launched, was automatically tarnished with the same brush as the likes of In it to Win It and Millionaire Manor by the prefix "The National Lottery..."
I do think it works best as a seperate 10 minute show nowadays - but I don't think it should just be randomly placed in the schedules. It needs a fixed slot, and IMO the best option would be to sandwich it in between the performance show and result show of whatever talent show the BBC have running that week.

and who else finds Alan Dedicoats banter really annoying - and why keep giving time checks?

Instead of the timechecks they should just have a digital clock under the draw machine. Then the host can read out the time before the guests press the button etc.
I hate the way its all scripted... its like the lottery draws have become some kind of farse. You need an entertaining host who can adlib - I don't know, someone like Greggles..*ahem* as an 'example'.
Maybe get rid of a host altogether and have someone else present in the announcer gallery with Alan.
