As the proposal isn't to play the national anthem during peak time, I don't think that's much of a problem- and a public service channel should be doing what's deemed to be right, not always what's most 'profitable'.

Come on- it's just one small item of interest.

Remember that the government is made up of a relatively small number of MPs- most MPs have no direct power whatsoever.

Four pages on something which is irrelevelant since it hasn't been played on BBC-1 since 1997!!!
It is not going to come back. Things move on. Just as many other delights from the past will NOT be coming back. Globes, Balloons, The Test Card and The Potter's Wheel!

I think what is relevent is that politicians are actually - in reality - discussing this.

It is not a political thing - it is slighlty scary that they are interfering. It is the top (or arguably slightly lower) of a slippery slide.

It would be nice to hear the National Anthem just before 6am each morning, almost like a pseudo-Start-up routine. But the Welsh and Scottish would want their own anthems, and then the English Nationalists would get going wanting to have "Land of Hope and Glory" instead of "God Save the Queen", so it would probably just be opening a can of worms Shocked

BBC Wales used to close down with both a short version of GSTQ and the Welsh Anthem.

WHy not force ITV to do the same?

I have seen on youtube that there played a much more older version plus there had pics of the royals!
