I wish some people would live in the real world.
Do the people who want the National Anthem back want all swearing banned on TV? Nice cosy and traditional tv presentation with announcers sitting in leather sofas and no programmes shown during daylight hours as this intereferes with British tradition!

From the clips I've seen, the globe always used to spin a bit slower at closedown each night - maybe this was because it had been spinning all day and the motor had slowed down a little? Or was I just seeing things?

Maybe if the part of the ident where the circle is formed could be played in slow-motion. I can see Kites working with this - a still, with a clock in the middle of the circle, followed by a wipe to the BBC1 logo, slow movement of the kites around the logo, and the national anthem being played - followed by a sixty-second countdown into News 24.

90 second countdown :p Wink Laughing!

@Robert Del Monte: The current coundown's only sixty seconds long (sadly).

As somebody suggested above, it would be a welcome addition to BBC 4's closedowns. They always make an effort to say goodnight properly on BBC 4, but it still feels a little incomplete when all they do is fade to the 'BBC Four returns...' slide.

Jesus. Is this really what we pay MPs for?

How about you try to fix the NHS? How about you look into the farce that was Iraq? How about, God forbid, you campaign for your local communities?

Nope, let's do an attention grabbing motion on the bloody national anthem.

God Save The Queen? God save democracy, more like. Mad

Ok, rant over... Cool

While they're at, why not campaign for a performance of 'Television' to be sung at the start of the days broadcasting like they did in the 30's? Rolling Eyes

It has to be said that the national anthem at closing on Christmas Day seemed rather poignant.

They should definately play the National Anthem at the end of the year in New Years Day.

I think they should play "Take Your Shoes Off" by the Cheeky Girls.

I hear Lembit Opik is lobbying for this.
