BBC1 & ITV were the only channels to ever play it. Since both channels no longer close down (and haven't done for ages- Closedowns on ITV were phased out from 1986 to 1988, depending on which region you were in. BBC1 stopped when news 24 launched in 1997), none of them do anymore. Radio 4 still do though, and it's the same arrangement used on BBC1.
