Er, why not ESPN Europe??? Surely ESPN America is, well, ESPN! Confused:

Seriously though, that NASN would eventually become ESPN something-or-other was a given once ESPN bought it. Even the name NASN seems to have been chosen to be similar to ESPN (obviously Setanta couldn't do that when they owned it).

Clearly, ESPN are trying to position themselves as a British sport channel , who have an American channel in their arsenal. Rolling Eyes

Presumably ESPN will bid for Premiership rights next time around and you will see the following channels in the UK........

ESPN 1 & maybe 2
ESPN Classic
ESPN American

There is already an ESPN Europe, broadcasting at 5.0 degrees East, on the Sirius 2 satellite. It would be strange to have a different ESPN Europe then broadcasting on 28.2 East.

Though I agree with a previous poster when they say that you will see an ESPN branded UK sports channel in the future, with a UK produced version of SportsCenter. There already is an ESPN Soccernet SportsCenter online which seems to be UK produced, given the fact that former Sky Sports News anchor Georgie Bingham is a host on it. And the studio, obviously very much in the SportsCenter mould, is obviously a hell of a lot smaller to the US one.

Then there's the fact there is an NASN Europe and NASN UK, since the rights are different there will be two different ESPN Americas anyway, so your logic is already flawed.

As long as they're going to keep showing the Toronto Maple Leafs matches I'll be happy!

NASN is on a Free View this weekend - very amusing watching the MLB playoffs with the bottom line ticker saying "You're watching the NHL Warmup Matches"....

Although attempting to explain baseball to my family - that was slightly more difficult.
