So, I noticed this today

*

Are Netflix moving away from the originals branding? Obv the heading above the pictures still says it but I wonder if the flack they've gotten given that many are not original productions but bought in imports (The Good Place and Star Trek Discovery in that screenshot both being CBS Digital productions) may have had an effect. Amazon of course are guilty of the same thing, branding Fleabag as an amazon show in the states.

I noticed that the other day - the branding has changed from “Netflix Original” to “N Series” but it seems have been done quietly without a press release or formal announcement.

Amazon part funds Fleabag so they’re well within their rights to brand it like that.

Isn't the N the Netflix logo, so they're just branding it a Netflix series.

Anyone else find they just don't get round to watching things on Netflix - if Stranger Things S3 had premiered in a traditional manner I'd probably be watching it weekly, but knowing it's there when I want it I can't see myself watching it till after the summer, and by then I'll probably be forget. I do find not having something which pulls me to Netflix on at least a weekly basis means I just don't use it - not that Netflix care of course as long as I'm paying them.

Rebranding as 'N Series' seems to be a good step forward.

While the same still applies with the new term, calling imported shows 'Netflix Original's' never felt right, since most were 'Original' given Netflix's exclusive or first run rights, such Drag Race, America's Got Talent, Riverdale and The Good Place to name a few.

It would feel better if they branded those as 'N Exclusive' or something along the same lines, then it still allows them to put Netflix branding on it, but stops them from branding their own commissions/partnerships and other companies work as the same thing.

To be honest I have dropped out of watching things both "traditionally" and on-demand. Not sure if I have a short attention span, I just lose interest or the offerings are not to my liking...

I'm also not convinced that if Stranger Things had aired at 10pm on Channel 4 I'd have been committed to a weekly run, its a hard enough slog as it is watching commercial TV live as it stands, especially when you consider the bulk of the programmes only run 23 or 48 minutes... Still beats the American system though where I think they're down to about 41 minutes an hour of content!

The more there is to watch the more selective I am about what I do watch. Drama wise I do think there is more satisfaction in waiting for your weekly fix - been enjoying Catch 22 on C4 in recent weeks, and although that was released in the US all in one go I think it's a show which considering by it's nature is quite repetitive it's probably best enjoyed weekly too.

Similarly a few weeks back having stumbled on the first ever episode of The Inbetweeners being repeated (again) on E4 I decided having not watch it probably since it's original airing that it's worth another watch, and though I could just have burnt them all off on All4 over a few nights having a couple of episodes a week to look forward too is somehow all the more satisfying.

Must admit Stranger Things Season 2 didn't grab my attention in the way the first did, so that's probably why I'm in no hurry to watch the third season.

I posted the following message a while back but I feel it to be rather necessary considering the BBC's somewhat small range of certain genres in programmes recently. Plus there's the fact that popular Netflix shows often tend to be science-fiction (a genre that BBC programming is noticeably lacking in recently).

Quote:
How cool would it be if BBC Two had a 'Netflix on Two' section where Netflix exclusive series (e.g Stranger Things, Black Mirror etc.) were shown weekly whilst the series is released all at once on Netflix. It would be a partnership that both the BBC and Netflix could benefit from as people who don't have Netflix could watch the content on BBC Two which in turn would increase viewing figures, whilst encouraging others who are impatient and can afford it, to give Netflix a go.

Although there is probably a whole plethora of reasons why it couldn't happen!

Netflix Film is "N Film" and there's also "N Standup".

I've seen a few people on Twitter saying the prefix reminds them of the "N word" which is obviously not good.

I'm just saying that it doesn't affect the shows or the programming in any major way. You're more than welcome to talk about it.
